Hi there! My name is Karen, and I am in the US. My boyfriend Gerard (nothing is official yet, hehe) is in the UK. Having fallen hopelessly and unexpectedly in love (who hasn't done THAT), we now find ourselves tossed into the unsure waters of K1.

Complicating matters is the fact that I am still in the middle of divorce proceedings. That's right, it will be AT LEAST 7 months before the divorce is finalized, and we can even begin the K1 process. Then it's ANOTHER 6 months after THAT!!! GAH!!!

I swear the waiting time apart is going to drive us both insane. We had a rough night last night after realizing that we would be apart for at least a year yet, and that is what led me to find this site. It's heartbreaking, really. What keeps us going is focussing on the vacation we have planned in March, and taking it one step at a time.

We both have so so many questions about the K1 process. There is just so much contradictory information out on the web, and it puts us in a panic at times. This is the one site that seems to have VALID info and REAL advice to give! We both welcome the help and support you are all sure to give. Thank you in advance!

Welcome to VJ. It sounds like you are on the right track, taking it one step at a time. We went through divorces as well and at times it seems endless but you can and do get through it. Best of luck to you both!

Bethanie

Awww. Glad to know we aren't the only ones out there! We both feel much better today. Realized that the one good thing here is that we aren't rushed, and have plenty of time to be prepared and get our paperwork in order.

And my daughter's name is Bethany! Not a common name here in NJ.

My fiance and I were together for a little over 2 years before we were able to send in the K1 petition. The time will pass, so use it to learn a lot about each other, let your relationship mature and use that distance to have some great, cheap vacations! Remember - its a journey, not a sprint to the finish line.

The 'guides' section of this site should break down the K1 process for you pretty well. Its actually not that complicated.

Welcome to VJ!

Welcome !

You have found a fine place. I too, was in the midst of a divorce whilst we planned things out...

It seems like forever while it's happening, but all things are temporary. Hang in there and stick around here-good people and great and accurate information !
