I'm filing the AOS paperwork. My question is this: my wife's name when we met was her ex-husband's last name, not her maiden name. Nowhere on the biographic (g325a) or the application for perm residency (I-485) does it ask for her other previous names, only maiden name. However after her divorce previously she kept her married name, which is what the marriage license has on it as her name. So on both of those forms it asks for her maiden name, but all of her documentation and the marriage license is under her former married name. How do I link the two? She is the USC, I'm the one adjusting status.

Consider reviewing the Form G-325A. On the second line of boxes, it asks for, "All Other Names Used (include names by previous marriages)."[emphasis added] I would suggest that you interpret that phrase that literally.

BTW, if you look carefully at the Form I-485 instructions (page 4, Initial Evidence, Item 8, http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-485instr.pdf ) the USC-spouse should not need to fill out another G-325A. The alien-spouse is applying to adjust status to a permanent resident. The USC does not need to adjust status.

That being said, I believe that our case was an anomaly. I, the USC, was asked by the IO at our AOS interview to furnish a Form G-325A. I scribbled out one upon the IO's request (though it certainly wasn't as neat as the computer-generated one was that I had included in my initial Form I-129F petition submission). I have mentioned this somewhat odd request on the AOS forum before, and have gotten the same...'Huh??' response. I know, go figure. I tell folks to follow the Form I-485 instructions.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

The USC does not need to fill out the G325a, where it asks for previous names used. It is HER previous names that are the issue, not mine. On the form I submit it does not ask for her previous names besides the maiden name. The confusion is that i'll be naming her as her maiden name where all the documentation is in her previous married name. Her current name is my family name.

So: on G325a: her maiden name,

on none of the forms but all documentation of identity: former married name

on I-485 and I-864: current married name (my last name)

The G325A asks for all of MY previous names, which there are no others.
