hi I hope someone can answer this

my income is about 48,000.00 a year but it comes from the vetarans administration 2,500.00 and social secutity 18,000.00 both are not taxable and are direct deposit i don't file taxes but i could get a letter from an officer at the bank about my deposits every month and i also have income amountts from botk the VA and SS

You say that your income is $48,000 a year and that $20,500 is not taxable (I'm not so sure about the SS income, SS payments become taxable when income reaches a certain level). That leaves $27,500.

This year's minimum income below which a tax return is not required is $8,450 for a single person under the age of 65. The highest minimum below which a tax return is not required is $18,900 for a couple both over the age of 65 filing married-joint.

Explain again why you do not file tax returns?

Regardless (though very critical to file) you easily qualify based on your income level. However, even if your income is non-taxable (I don't see how it can be but maybe there is more to it than you stated) you can still file and show 0 taxable income and use the transcrpts (or tax returns) for the proof that's needed for the petition and the AOS. Its always a good idea to file even if you don't have taxable income or you don't owe taxes - just to have the record and to keep your record straight. Good Luck
