Is that true? please can someone kindly explain it to me? before getting there to the office i called the customer serviceof ss number hotline and even call the office itself and said i can apply for the number. but the old lady said i cant coz im not a k1 anymore since im already married and that old lady dont even bother to listen to my explanation and didnt even read the paper I printed out from the ss site.and didnt even bother to ask her supervisor if what im saying is correct...

try a different office. And they'll want your social security card to match the name on your I-94 (which means it will have to be in your original last name, not your husband's last name). Once you get your Green Card, you can go back and have the name changed on your social security card.

Or, you can wait until you get your EAD/AP/Green card and apply for one then in your married last name.

Good luck!

When does/did your I-94 expire? You should be able to obtain an SSN until approx. 2 weeks before it expires. And the lady is wrong, you can do it even though you're married.

I called that ffice today and the supervisor told me to just go back and look for her so she will assist me with that. I guess that old lady was some kinda a racist. she didnt even look at my papers she just say i cant coz im k1 and now married....

Just because you were told something wrong does not mean that old lady was a racist.
This issue is an onging problem and they have been training there workers.
And for the last few years the SSA has been trying to get Congress and DHS to change the rules so K-1's can not get SSN's till they got and EAD or GC.

The reason i said that coz i was trying to explain it to her that we just returned back coz they asked for some document that we havent got at that time. but she dont even want to listen or dont want me to talk she just said "I dont care wht the officers told you but im doing this 24/7 and you cant apply for ss #. So my husband said to go home and call the office again and get the names of the person you talked to then come back and the supervisor told me to go back and she will help which i did today and the another old lady again assist us and she told us she will asked first which the first one didnt do. And she said ok i will try and finally i have it today. I will not say that she is a racist if she let me talk and she listen but she did not. well, no matter what i say your not in that situation thats why you can say that.
