Questions about invitation letter and finances

Hi all. I am a US citizen, and my husband is a permanent resident. We would like to try to have his father, a Malawian citizen, visit for a couple of weeks next summer. When writing an invitation letter, would it be better for me - the US citizen - to write it? Or my husband? Or does it even make a difference?

In the letter we will state that we will be paying for his airfare/accomodation, etc. We also intend on sending an affadavit of support as well as our financial documents. However, he only makes the equivalent of about $85.00/month. Does he even stand a chance of getting approved if he only makes that amount, despite the documents we'll be sending?

I doubt that the answers you got on that thread will change but...

And from my own experience when I applied for a tourist visa, the CO didn't even ask to see any document. I just answered his questions and that's what he based everything on. So even if your FIL brought a stack of paperwork with him, there's never a guarantee that the CO would even be interested to look at those.
