Hello everybody,

My wife arrived in the US with the K1 visa and then we got married. We are attempting to get her permanent residency card through the AOS process but are stuck.

For the i-485 form, we need to complete the I-693. That form says it needs the vaccination records from K1 applicants.

Upon our arrival to the US, we were taken to an office for a short interview and we gave them the medical packet.

We believe all the records, including vaccination, were included in that packet.

Because of this, we currently do not have any medical records with us from the overseas exam other than a CD that says not to open.

How can we complete the I-693?

Will they send us back our medical packet?

Or do we have to start over and see a civil surgeon? It is strange because it is assumed that we have it. Is it normal protocol for immigration at POE to take the incoming K1 visa-holders entire medical packet?

Thank you guys for any help you can provide!

Yes, the sealed packet is always taken away at POE. The idea was that you were ideally supposed to get a copy before that: generally, the doctor overseas (when you had your original medical exam) should have provided you with a photocopy of the vaccination supplement. The original DS-3025 that the doctor signed is in the sealed packet that you handed over at POE. It's often suggested that you ask for a photocopy after your medical overseas, before your embassy interview. Sorry that you didn't get it!

The CD is totally irrelevant, it's just your lung xray and really no one ever wants it, at any point in your journey.

But it's not the end of the world if you don't have it. If you want to assume that you had all the correct vaccinations and that the form was filled out, then simply submit the AOS without any medical/vaccine records (add a note to the effect that the DS-3025 was handed over at POE).

Otherwise, you will need to see a civil surgeon and get the I-693 filled out. Could be tricky since you'll need to show proof of your prior vaccinations, which is why most people suggest getting a photocopy of the DS-3025 before this stage. But I'm sure it can be done without!

My wife is from Iran, she brought a translated copy of her vaccination record separate from her immigration packet. We searched around for a civil surgeon and then called around to check the prices. There was a very wide range. We selected someone who would only charge us for the paperwork and would not require a separate medical exam, some clinics we called required this. It all took about 1 1/2 hours for the appointment and the paperwork to be completed. Total it costed us about $150. If your wife has her vaccination history you should be good. If not, can you get another translated copy from Iran?

We went to Turkey and after our medical examination, they gave us the copy of all the vaccines (the original copy was included in the medical sealed package) plus x-ray CD. We got a copy of that and sent it for our AOS. This happened in May, not sure if they still give that copy to applicants or not.

Did she go to institute Pastor in Tehran for vaccination? Didn't they gave her a small yellow passport looking booklet? Also, my doctor in Abu Dhabi who did the medical test on me, gave me a report "for my own info", in an open envelope. All they ask for are these two documents.
