Best thing to do is get married and then file for a ead card.

You can read the following websites for more info.

You need to get married and then do AOS. You need to file for AOS to be able to work (you will apply for a stop gap Employment Document that will be approved in around 90 days).

Regarding cold weather, you will need to get appropriate clothes and learn how to dress for the cold. Get clothes that are not made of cotton (look for wool and silk and synthetics instead) and make sure your torso is extra warm with lots of layers. If your hands or feet are cold, it means that your core is not dressed well, because your body is pulling blood from your extremities to heat your vital organs in your middle. So mittens are a good idea, but if your torso/core is not properly dressed then no mitten will keep you warm. Also make sure to tuck your clothes in your waist (at least one layer) so no wind gets up there. Also know that a significant portion of your heat is lost through your head, so get a hat.

Good luck!

My fiancee is in the same position, though she's from Ukraine where the temperatures are the same.

We're keeping busy with ballroom dance lessons and decorating the house for Christmas.

I think she might go to college for a while considering it will be several months minimum before she can legally work. There's a community college about 4 blocks from my house.

College may end up being at foreign tuition rates. She isn't a resident yet check with the school

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

 I come from a cold place and was on the ski team growing up, and even some people there didn't know how to dress for the cold (and get mad that their mittens don't keep their hands warm, but the real culprit for cold hands is a cold torso). When my husband arrived I told him that for this he needed to listen about the cold. I have him a long spiel about it. He was a good sport: I got him a pair of hot chillies long underwear and he didn't take them off almost the whole winter.

Now he says winter is awesome and that summer sucks. In the summer he says "I can't wait for winter!"

My wife is about to experience the northeast chill so my SoCal sister took her shopping to find a winter coat. There was no way we were going to spend hundreds of dollars for a flimsy Nordstrom jacket. I took her to the Columbia outlet in the desert and picked up an Arctic jacket for each of us. After a recent trip in the northeast, I found the jacket to be a very helpful component in allowing me to adapt back to the cold weather after having lived so long in SoCal. She'll be in good hands.

Now I just need to find her a good set of Long Janes.
