Hello all ,

I have reviewed the site some and dont see any samples letters for this que.

I am doing the initial form completions and want to know should I really add a supplement page for que. 18 or is a simple statement saying we met at a party at a mutual friends house good enough?

And if I add a supplemental sheet how detailed do we get? Do I go beyond the initial meeting description ( they only ask for how you met) and explain also how I- then established the relationship and maintained it -such as I then visited her 3 times in her home town and then moved to Mexico for 6 months to further the bonds of love etc... Do I type in space 18 see attached supplement if one is added?

Also her home towns name doesnt fit in some of the spaces can I just abbreviate or do I attach a supplement page just for her towns name?

Thanks

In reading in this forum, I have learned that the more evidence you submit with your application the better the interview is. I added a page 18 and gave them a story of how we met online and in person. It does not hurt to write more that one sentence.

Remember also, that while they are asking how you initially came in contact with one another, your main focus and their definition of "met" in this instance is your having physically been in the same geographic place at the same time during the last two years.

Most find it best to do an attachment answer for this question as that is very difficult to pull off in the tiny box they give you.

You may want to do another attachment with her complete city name spelled out. If the answer to any question does not fit in the given box, best to say see attachment #XYZ and put the proper answer there.

Good luck on your journey!

Whilst there are those where a simple one line answer to Q18 has sufficed, there are also those that have received an RFE for further details on how they met in person that established the relationship.

There is no standard format. You can use letter form, timeline etc

Tip:

Use Q18 to describe in some detail of how you met in the required 2 year period that established the relationship. The evidence you then submit should support those details. Boarding passes, passport stamps, hotel/credit card receipts, rental receipts if ever lived together etc etc are primary evidence. Photos are secondary which support the primary evidence. What one should be aiming for is creating an image in the minds eye of the adjudicator......a complete picture. Look outside the box for evidence that shows you both in the same place at the same time. Each case is different and one should submit evidence accordingly, not just rely on the standard unofficial list.

Whilst evidence of an ongoing relationship is not a requirement at the initial filing stage, it can be beneficial to those from high fraud countries (eg the philippines) to do so, or if there is anything that could be a red flag that may cause issues at interview stage. This evidence should always be very carefully scrutinized especially emails & chat, to make sure there is nothing mentioned that may be construed in a different way then it is meant. Also make sure that any photo evidence submitted of any ceremony cannot be mistaken for a marriage ceremony which has in the past caused issues and denials.

Regarding the hotel/credit card receipts (which I sent), I got an RFE wanting to see actual bank statments and credit card statments showing cash withdrawals/purchases made in my fiance's country during my last visit to see her. Others have also gotten RFE's for their fiance's birth certificates, (which forntuately, I did send, translated and certified, the first time as was recommended on another web site). Some have gotten by without the birth certificate and its hard to say why they seem to want it for some petitions and not for others.

Do what makes you comfortable - I only filled in one line - dates and the city and country where we met, nothing more. My advice - make sure to have a few pictures of you together in the petition - I feel that tells more than anything that you two met. (I used2 pictures only.) Good Luck

I recommend people write about the meeting and subsequent events leading to love in a manner that they would tell their mother. If you frame such a description in that way, you will find the words flow pretty well.

I agree that an attachment is a much better way than trying to fill in that little area with how you met, fell in love, etc. You don't have to give intimate details but describe your efforts to be together and visits.

Regarding the length of her city name, it is appropriate to write the name of the city first followed by an abbreviation in parentheses for followup descriptions. For example, say my fiancee lives in Lake Santa Maria de la Vega (LSMV) and then in later mentions of the city just use LSMV.

You will see this a lot on Visa Journey (VJ) when we write (NOA), (AOS), (AP), (EAD), etc. This is a prefectly acceptable way of shortening long worded phrases.

On the I 129 f, I stated that we met online and gave the dates, then said we had met 5 times in person and put 'see attached supplement for details'.

On the attachment, I again mentioned how and when we first 'met' (online) and then was a little more detailed about his first trip here (when we actually decided to get married). I then gave the months and years of our 4 other visits.

Awesome info from all thanks so much!!

I believe I will write in See attached in que. 18 and describe a half page or so stating our first meeting and then how we subsequently developed and maintained the relationship the last 14 months, including proposal and current status. I am seeing her for ten days over Christmas and was told since I dont have any dated photos(but 100s of dated emails) I should take a few dated photos this trip or have one with a newspaper showing date! Attorney also recommended I send copy and translation of her Birth Cert. which I will do.

Merry Christmas to all Ill be spending mine near the beach in Veracruz with my gal, cant wait!

Thanks, James

My fiance lives in China ,A high fraud country. I said we met on match .com. That we had communication for many months, that what attracted her to me was that she spoke english. In the following summer we made plans . I mentioned that I purchased plane tickets plus an attachment showing a copy of that purchase. As it is often asked for during interview. (who paid for tickets?)Then showed boarding passes and passport. to establish actual trip. I mentioned where we went and who we met. (with attached photos). Plane tickets within China showing we sat along side each other. I just tried to cover things that have been mentioned in the interview before. RFE's. I tried to establish our relationship with this letter. This is the only chance before interview to do this . Show the relationship is real to VO

Some red flag issues can be raised when looking at how a couple met. (eg. a short courtship, being introduced by beneficiary's family etc). Take advantage of the supplement to clearly and succincently describe how you met in order to establish the legitimacy of your relationship.
