Hi Everyone,

So, Im from Colombia and Im currently living in Argentina. My fiance who lives in Long Beach received our NOA2 on oct 21st. She called the NVC a couple of weeks after and she was told they received the NOA2. We were curious and she called again the NVC last friday (Nov 22nd) and we were told they sent our case to the consular section. She asked..just to confirm, was it sent to the embassy in Colombia? They answered no, it was sent to the embasy in Argentina.

The thing is the lawyer who has guided us thru this process told us when we started this process I would have to travel to Colombia for my interview, which is what I wanted because its my home country and considering the trends (Which were very accurate btw) our case would be received at the embassy by the end of november. The problem is I quited my job because I was ready to travel to Colombia for the interview and now the lawyer says she will try to get the case before the interview date is assigned in Argentina and send the case to Colombia.

We dont know if that is possible considering the NVC assigned a case number for Argentina's Embassy "BNS####" and as far as I know every case handled by the US Embassy in Colombia has a different name structure "BGT####".

Does anyone know what we can do or if its true the case can be re-assigned to another consular section after a case number has been issued by the NVC?

Thank you!

You're the third case that I've seen on VJ so far. You could ask US consulate in Buenos Aires to sent petition to US consulate in Bogota. But some people said, it takes months to do so. Now, it is up to your choice.

Edit:

This is the thread about that.

Thanks a lot for the info. I guess the best choice now is just to wait until our file gets here in Argentina and do the process here instead of Colombia. I really dont want to wait longer or make the the process even more complicated than what it normally is :/

Hello hectormbr,...i was just curious of the result to your situation. We are under going a similar experience. Our case was sent to Spain instead of Colombia. Our lawyer was able to make the request for case transfer going through the Bogota Embassy who made this request on our behalf. CEAC web site shows our status as Transfer in Progress. ( 3/18/14- Ready in Spain - 4/23/14 Transfer in Progress) now awaiting for Embassy in Bogota Colombia to receive our case and update the case number to BGT###.

Any info on your experience would be welcomed. Thank you and god Bless.

Hi Sexto sol and sorry for the late reply. We ended up leaving the paperwork in Argentina even thought that meant a lot of changes of the plans I had already made by that time. We chose that because we were afraid letting our lawyer to request sending the papers to Colombia after they got to Argentina would delay our process for months. Fortunately everything worked out well and now I'm living in the States with her. Its a long process anyways and now we are dealing with a stupid RFE in my AOS :/

If you need anything else just let me know and I wish you the best in this journey!
