I didn't even know there was a certain way meat should become meat to certain religions, and that you couldn't eat lard or something. But about the meat either way you rase the cattle to be killed to be eaten. That's it. Does it matter how it's done? I would actually think halal meat to be more expensive, as the slaughtering process is slower.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

Halal meat is being served to pupils in state schools without their knowledge, even if they believe the religious slaughter is cruel.

Why do they think it's cruel? One of the main points of the proper (halal) way to slaughter animals is to minimize their suffering.

I took an Arabic course from a Palestinian guy from Jordan, he went on and on once when we were talking about Arab food about how much better halal meat tastes compared to what you normally get in the supermarket. He said the reason is because the blood is drained from the animal. I dunno, I haven't noticed much difference between the meat we get from the Super King in Anaheim as opposed to what we get at Stater Brothers.

Troy: Come on Jimmy, let's take a peek at the killing floor.

Jimmy: Ohhh!

Troy: Don't let the name throw you Jimmy. It's not really a floor,

it's more of a steel grating that allows material to sluice

through so it can be collected and exported.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I don't think it is catering to anyone but a way to make sure the meals are sold.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily say public funds cover the meals, but rather the money the students pay to buy those meals.

The article says 20-50% of the students are non-muslim, which means 50-80% are muslim/jewish. Providing halal meals doesn't seem to me to be catering to special groups if the **majority** is the so-called "special group."

I don't know how school lunch works in the UK or how schools are funded, but I'd guess the schools are mandated in some way to provide food for all the children in the school who need to buy lunch. It is the case in California to have all kinds of options including vegatarian, non-beef (for Hindus), halal, kosher. I'd also guess there are kids who cannot afford to buy lunch, in the US we have the free & reduced price lunch program. I'd be surprised if the UK doesn't have the same. They would then certainly need to have specific food for those who cannot afford lunch, which is the case in California at least.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.
