Hi all,

I'm just trying to make sure i'm editing my VJ timeline correctly and am confused about NOA1 and NOA2. We mailed the i129f petition on October 7, got an email that it had been received about a week later, and now have had an i-797 approval notice. Is this my noa1 or 2?

Also now that I have this, what is the next step, do I need to wait for another notice?

What kind of things should we start preparing for the next stage?

Thanks so much,

Georgia

It's probably not your NOA2 if it's only been one month since you've filed (Unless you're one of the super lucky ones :D).

You can log into the website to see your updates.. That is the first place you will find out when NOA2 is done (could be a anywhere from 3-7 months I think), and then they will send you a hardcopy of NOA2. Then you wait for packet3 which I believe is usually an email from the Embassy.

Hi smile.png

Mk sooo this is how it goes:

NOA1: IF you filled form G-1145 you will get an e-mail/text with in 3-4 days from the day they got your package. The email (NOA1) goes something like this:

Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS California Service Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number XXXXXXXXXX. With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status of your case using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status.

This confirmation provides notification of the date USCIS received your case. This notice does NOT grant any immigration status or benefit. You MAY NOT present this notice as evidence that you have been granted any immigration status or benefit. Further, this notice does NOT constitute evidence that your case remains pending with USCIS. The current status of your case must be verified with USCIS.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE

Now, with that number in red you can register at the USCIS webpage, and check for updates (also subscribe for e-mail/text notifications).

IF you did NOT fill form G-1145 you will have to wait for the NOA1 hardcopy. This will take around 10 days from the day they got your package. The letter is the "Form I-797C, Notice of Action". You will see your receipt number (the number in red above), both of your names and dates of birth. That's pretty much it.

NOA2: After you have gotten your NOA1, you will get another notification. If you subscribed to the USCIS website, you will again get an e-mail and/or a text. The e-mail looks like this.

*** DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL ***

The last processing action taken on your case

Receipt Number: XXXXXXXXXX

Application Type: I129F , PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)

Your Case Status: Post Decision Activity

On November 20, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

For approved applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition to the National Visa Center or the Department of State. For denied applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include the processing of an appeal and/or motions to reopen or reconsider and revocations.

If you have questions or concerns about your application or the case status results

listed above, or if you have not received a decision from USCIS within the current

processing time listed*, please contact USCIS Customer Service at (800) 375-5283.

*Current processing times can be found on the USCIS website at www.uscis.gov under Check Processing Times.

*** Please do not respond to this e-mail message.

Sincerely,

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

This e-mail will actually tell you if your case has been approved (not accepted, approved!). You will get the hardcopy of the NOA2 within a week or so of the e-mail.

NVC-Embassy: After you get your NOA2, your package is sent to the NVC. This can take a while, it used to take around 2 weeks, but it seems to be taking longer now (because of how fast USCIS has been processing). Once NVC gets your case, it will be shipped to the beneficiary's embassy. Now, it is adviced to call the NVC after 5 weeks of your NOA2 to get your case number (This is a different number), since they will mail you a form telling you your case has been shipped to the embassy with your case number and we know mail can be slow. Once you have your new number, you can start calling the embassy to get your interview date.

Then they will send the beneficiary a checklist (Packet 3), with some documents he/she needs to send (BEFORE the interview). You need to get an appointment for the medical exam. Once they receive and go through this packet 3, you will get another checklist (Packet 4), the beneficiary must take with him/her to the interview.

NOTE that some countries do NOT have a Packet 3, and everything must be taken to the interview. Also, Checklists may vary from country to country... so make sure to ask in the regional forums, maybe someone can tell you what they ask for. (If you check the guides, they will tell you some things that you will need no matter where you are)

And I think that's all.... roughly. Sorry for the HUGE post, I hope I helped.

This is what I understand, I have only gotten as far as the NOA2 e-mail!

i-797 is your NOA2.

Next it will be sent to NVC/DoS.... My case was updated when TCS sent my package to DoS.

The wait time can be up to 8 weeks at NVC. But I suggest calling after 2 weeks to start asking for your case number....It won't hurt.

In the meantime you can start form I-134.

Good Luck :-)
