So the PRC has unilaterally extended its "Air Defence Identification Zone" over an area of the East China Sea that covers the Senkaku, or Daioyu Islands, territory disputed by Japan, China and Taiwan.

BBC article here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-25062525

China is definitely flexing its muscle, in the East, facing Japan and Taiwan, and in the West, facing India. The PRC has just flown its first stealth drone, is developing its stealth air assets, the J-20 and J-31, and is working toward getting its first aircraft carrier operational. Militarily, China is in its ascendancy.

But what is driving this new pushiness?

I'm guessing that they figure to lose only 10 men to 1 enemy killed should their actions generate armed conflict?

There are going to be issues here for sure, patrol boats shadowing each other, fisherman being harassed and now China making an air defence zone adjacent to Japan's. It only takes one itchy trigger finger and nationalists in both countries want more pressure on the other meaning both governments can't lose face which suggests the problem isn't going away. It looks like China wants to show that it's a major player now and lay claim to the gas/oil fields in the disputed islands.

If you think that is a mess check out the Spratly Islands which are claimed by

  • Brunei
  • People's Republic of China:
  • Malaysia:
  • Philippines:
  • Taiwan
  • Vietnam:

Good luck sorting that one out!

China is settling old scores. These are ancestral claims. They are targeting what they see as their near term goals. They are now arming and will train their military to seize if need to and/or control these regions.

It is also an area that no industrial country would declare a major war over. As long as China allows free flow for the shipping lanes everyone else is happy. There should also be enough natural resources in that area to keep their economy humming for a long time.

Do you think the U.S. should go to war with China if they take this territory as their own? We are the only country on Earth that can stop them.

Here's what China considers their territory in the South China Sea:

Pretty outrageous.

rofl.gif By coincidence, China is also US biggest foreign creditor.

So how should US finance its war? Borrowing more money from 'Enemy' China?

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

The only way we will win a war against China is if we offer them a link to a website & convince them to sign up for ACA. It'll keep 'em busy for a year or two while we sneak in from behind and take over the islands.

At sea or the air we would own China. Luckily islands are surrounded by water. smile.png
