6. Vermont

> Debt per capita: $5,566 (10th highest)

> Budget deficit: 14.2% (17th largest)

> Unemployment: 5.0% (4th lowest)

> Median household income: $52,977 (20th highest)

> Pct. below poverty line: 11.8% (10th lowest)

Vermont residents generally have a high quality of life, with very low crime and poverty rates last year. Despite a fairly high level of debt distributed across a small population as of fiscal 2011, the state’s credit rating is relatively strong. Vermont also had among the highest proportion of adults with a high school diploma in the nation last year. This may be due in part to the amount the state invests in education — Vermont spent $3,708 per capita on education in fiscal 2011, the most in the country. Education spending accounted for 40% of the state’s total expenditure that year, among the highest nationally. In 2011, the state passed Green Mountain Care, the first single-payer health care system in the U.S. The state plans to make the transition to the new system in 2017. Vermont already had the second-highest proportion of state residents covered by health insurance in 2012.

Well, it ain't Wyoming but it is the best BLUE state of them all. we are very conservative in our liberalism. Where did YOUR state place? There is a 90% chance it is worse than mine.

Reason? Guns.

We can all carry guns (so can Wyoming residents. Wyoming is ranked number 1). Because of this we have low crime. Because we have low crime we do not spend money on "fighting crime" and can spend money on education, healthcare Because of this we can walk our streets at night any time, any where. Because of this our quality of life is not stolen by criminals who force us to avoid bits and pieces of our fine state. Because of this there is a thriving downtown night life where people WANT to go because it is fun and entertaining. No one can visit and not say "WOW" what a great place to be! Because of this there are no "drive bys" no "knockout games" no "carjackings" no fear of a young black man walking home with skittles, no mall shootings, no school shootings, no police killed by criminals, (ever) . True, we have to dodge UVM students on skateboards, environmentalists riding bikes with flashing LED helmets...NO they are not outer space aliens, I checked. We tolerate hippies (yes, they all moved here) gays, lesbians and people that marry goats. Who cares? Life is good.

It will be fine with me when ALL of our state's spending is for education and healthcare.

Green Mountain care was passed in 2006. In 2011 they phased in the single payer for everyone plan which is also being accomplished. By 2017 ALL Vermont residents will be covered by this (we don't try to rush into things and fall on our face, like Obamacare) Many individuals and employers already opt for this.

Vermont rents some of its prison space to other states. We can't seem to fill them up, but other states can and PAY us for that.

Our liberal Democrat Govenor killed a nice buck on opening day of deer season last week. What was YOUR governor doing? http://www.seattlepi.com/news/us/article/Vt-gov-bags-6-point-buck-on-opening-day-4987362.php (caution, photo of Democrat with dead animal)

Shumlin is a real hunter, not a photo op hunter like Ho Chi Kerry ("Can I get me a huntin' license here?") Shumlin is a strong supporter of gun rights and education...his state's crime rate reflects this.

Kentucky is a red state, is very pro-gun and was 38th.

Arizona has some of the most lenient gun laws in the country, and it's at 45th!

Same with New Mexico and it's 49th.

It's almost as if this has nothing to do with guns at all.
