I'm (name edited for security reasons) a permanent resident of Seattle, Washington. We moved here on August 12, 2013. Life has not been doing well. My biggest challenge is getting my boyfriend here to USA also. I'm planning to marry him and file for F2A.

Hi hi! I'm Emm and we are in Seattle too. I'm sorry to hear that life isn't that good for you. I arrived here last June 2013 through K1.

You will have to marry him because LPRs aren't allowed to petition for K1 visas/fiance visas.

Hope you find the site helpful and welcome to the community smile.png

I see that you had a previous post regarding which to choose between K1 or F2A.

You need to be a US citizen to apply for K1/fiance visa while LPRs can petition ONLY for their spouse and NOT their fiance. With this in mind you should go for F2A.

Another good thing about an F2A is that the spouse would have a green card once they arrive in the US that makes the "job hunting" easier once he comes to the US. The adjustment of status (AOS) will be done while he is in the Philippines.

Compared to going through a K1 visa, you would spend less money and time. With the K1 visa you have to wait for your citizenship and once he enters US through K1, he needs to do AOS which is another $1000 or so.

I'm not really sure as to how long an F2A takes but it should be really faster than waiting for your citizenship and filing for a K1. I'll just give a year as minimum for the wait.
