What do you guys do for health insurance?

I'm living in the U.S. now, preparing to get married, send off my AOS packet, and all of that stuff. However, I want to get health insurance so that way if I get in an accident of some kind I, and my parents, are not bankrupt.

What did you guys do? What should I do? Does Obamacare affect me at all?

Thanks in advance!

Does your spouse have insurance? Normally people add their spouse to their plan once married. Otherwise, you can shop on the exchange.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

As far as I understand you aren't eligible for Obamacare.

I'm getting insurance through my husband's work.

You two may want to shop around to find insurance privately. Becareful as sometimes they won't cover you until you've been in the USA as an LPR for XX days.

My husband got myself and our newborn baby private insurance...IT's called healthplus, and it's really great! We've used it for my daughters' 2 month appointment, and my gynecologist appointment and both were FREE like back home! We were in SAMS club and thats where we signed up for it!

Obamacare is not insurance, it is a law which oversees the purchase of private insurance. You will have to go to the healthcare.gov (otherwise known as obamacare) website and shop for private insurance... The marketplace (aka. Healthcare.gov) is the "exchange" ... There are also professionals at some places such as Walgreens, CVS and local doctors that are holding sessions to help people choose and navigate the market...

Was wondering this myself. My fiance is in school & doesn't have a full-time job with insurance coverage. I can't rely on me getting coverage from a job when I finally can work so we are looking around. Everything (even with the school) we have looked at is hundreds of dollars a month! We are gonna be tight with money as it is. Stresses me out! I don't understand this US health insurance business!

Sounds like Medicaid administered by Healthplus?

Nope it's not medicad! It's just private insurance. My husband is a paramedic and that's how we went about I, because his employer insurance was more expensive and accepted in less places.

I hear ya, I'm in the same boat. No idea how in the world I'm gonna pay for health care with only a part time job. I've tried applying for other jobs to no avail and with a job like mine, health care would eat up my entire month's worth of wages "IF" I'm even able to afford 1 month's worth. =/

You would be eligible for a tax credit through Obamacare.

Normally you would get Medicaid, but as I understand it you need to be a LPR for 5 years and then there is still the I 864 issue.

I work at for the Marketplace.... here are a few important things for all to know... Instead of typing it all out, I'll just post some links.

Who can use the Marketplace

https://www.healthcare.gov/am-i-eligible-for-coverage-in-the-marketplace/

You have to be legally here. We will ask you for proof

Cost-Sharing (lowering out of pocket costs)

https://www.healthcare.gov/will-i-qualify-to-save-on-out-of-pocket-costs/

Advance Premium Tax Credit

https://www.healthcare.gov/will-i-qualify-to-save-on-monthly-premiums/

Estimate what you're looking at

https://www.healthcare.gov/find-premium-estimates/

Keep in mind some states have their own Marketplaces/Exchanges. If your state does, it will show you where to go

Employer based coverage

https://www.healthcare.gov/what-if-i-have-job-based-health-insurance/

How to apply

https://www.healthcare.gov/how-do-i-apply-for-marketplace-coverage/

The website (as you most probably know) has glitches. It works perfectly for some and others are riddled with issues. I see improvements every day. If you have issues online, call and we'll do it for you right then and there.

Hope this helps you out a lil bit.
