Hi,

I came on a K-1 Fiancé Visa from France. We got married. We are now filling for AOS and I am hear to get your help to clarify whether the birth certificate can be translated by myself or by my wife? There are so many posts about this subject that it gets confusing.

On this page http://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and-fees/general-tips-assembling-applications-mailing, it does not say that the translator must be certified or must be different than myself.

What do you think? Could I just include this statement at the bottom of the translated BC?

Thanks

  • Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

    Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

    Signature_________________________________
    Date Typed Name
    Address

Yes, you must add that certification to the translated document. Anyone fluent in both languages can do the translation.
