Hi everyone,

I am a B1 holder and I am going to visit my husband and his family (he is an American and currently in the states) with our son (American; dual citizen) from Japan.

Would it be safe if I bring a letter from my workplace and a copy of returning trip itinerary (to support that i will be back to Japan)?

We just submiited I-130 but my son and i plan to come back. (havent got NOA1, but probably will get it by then)

Just started worry after reading other members threads.

your advise is much appreciated!

Thanks!

You can bring anything you wish, but bear in mind that no letter nor round trip tickets can prove your intentions....the consul will be determining that during the interview. Neither letters nor airline tickets can force an individual to comply with the terms of a visa (or VWP)...it will boil down to what the CO believes when talking to you.

If you are coming down and going back always be honest and bring ties to your home country as well as any paperwork (NOA1, petition if you have a copy) to prove that you are doing things legally. Although as the above poster said that if you bring that and they believe that you will stay, they will send you back. Won't know until you try. I would suggest bringing things like a letter from work saying when you are due back and/or a lease or something to show that you have residence back in Japan. Good luck!!

You said you are a "B1" visa holder. Is it actually a B1/B2 or is it really just a B1? The reason for asking is that a B1 is a "visitor for business" visa. It cannot be used to visit for personal reasons -- that's a B2, visitor for pleasure. So, if it's only a B1, you need to have a business-related reason for the trip or apply for a B2 visa.
