Are VJ K-1 Guidelines Complete?

I'm working on getting my I-129F package together and I've been using the Visa Journey Step-by-Step page as my guide. (http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide).

I just want to make sure that guide is complete. I noticed it didn't say anything about the I-134 form. Is that not necessary to fill out and submit at this point? I'm assuming that means it's something my fiance would take with her to her interview.

Also, I'm going to have to have a co-sponsor for this but noticed on the US Embassy website (for Pakistan - http://islamabad.usembassy.gov/i864.html), it says an I-864 (co-sponsor) is not required when applying for a fiance visa because it's not an immigrant visa. It said it will only be required when my fiance applies for her adjustment of status. But if she submits an I-134 at her interview and it shows I don't make enough money to support her - wouldn't they deny her the fiance visa at that point?

To answer your first question - No affidavit of support is needed with the petition. The petition is only to establish that a relationship exists. No income is required to establish the relationship.

Your second question - I don't know to be honest. I know very little about the I-134. Someone will chime in.

There is a poverty guidline that I happened to see today, I just filed my petition today and sent in a affidavit of support, with 5 years of my w2's and a letter verification from my employer, I know VJ doesnt recommed it during the first step of this process but, I wanted to show them everything !

Good luck took me two weeks to get this far, and I just begun.

I-134 Affidavit of Support is required when you goto Embassy for interview and you have to take it with you. Also I-134 and I-864 is basically the same thing but for different kind of Immgration statuses. Although K-1 is not a immigrant visa it still requires I-134 Affidavit of Support and not the I-864 but contact the Embassy and see there own preference, personally i don't think they shouldn't require I-864.

If you'd like you can send I-134F Affidavit of Support. Me and my Fiancee sent it because when the package is sent to Embassy they require I-134F and it was already in the package for them to look at but if you dont have the required documents you can wait until the interview.

Thanks everybody! That answered my question about providing the I-134 with the initial petition. But what I'm wondering now is - the Embassy says no need for my fiance to bring an i-864 with her to the interview since she's not interviewing for an immigrant visa. But they do require that she bring the I-134 which will show I didn't make enough last year! So it seems like it would be smart to provide her with the I-864 too.

But I'm just wondering if they really consider the income at that point or if they ignore it until after she gets here?

They don't care for your income untill the Interview when they review it. If you or if you have a co sponsor makes more than 19,000 USD you're good to go.

Salam Zeeshanish - and thank you. It's weird though that they say they don't look at your income for a K-1 visa because it's not an immigrant visa but then they require you to bring the I-134, but don't want to see the I-864 - if you need one. Something's not making sense. No surprise there I guess!

I think you're mostly confused about the need for a co-sponsor on the I-134, correct? Since you're saying you don't make enough and will need a co-sponsor, but the I-134 itself doesn't initially appear to show anything about co-sponsors. So: every embassy is different and you'll need to head to the MENA forum and find out what Pakistan will require, but IN GENERAL: if you need a co-sponsor for the I-134 at the embassy stage, you'll fill out one I-134 yourself (showing not enough income), and your co-sponsor will prepare/sign a second I-134 with their own supporting documentation. They will look at BOTH I-134's at the interview.

Once you get to the USA and file for adjustment of status, that's when the I-864 comes into play, and it is much clearer how to use co-sponsors with that. But usually for the embassy stage, they want I-134 from you and a second I-134 from a co-sponsor if you need it -- again it depends on your local embassy, so find out for sure what Pakistan wants/requires via the local forums or email the embassy directly.

Whoever is telling you that income isn't imporant is lying to you because it follows the same rule set as I-864 which requires certain income.

What about the fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen who is applying for a fiancé(e) visa?

An I-864 is not required when applying for a fiancé(e) visa. An I-864 will be required at the time the fiancé(e) visa holder applies to adjust his or her status from nonimmigrant to conditional resident with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS).

And, on the VisaJourney Pakistan page - http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Pakistan&cty=Islamabad it says:

"I-134 Affidavit of Support w/ Supporting Financial Docs from Petitioner> optional."

Does that mean you really don't have to show an I-134 at the interview?

You most definitely will want to bring an I-134. For most embassies it is required. You need to prove to the consulate that you have sufficient income to support your fiance. In my past experience, as I went through the consulate in Colombia, the I-134 is on the list of required documents as well as proof of income and last year's tax return transcript.

for the k-1 1-129f interview you need the 1-134 and, the most recent tax return three pay stubs, a letter from your employer how long you work there your pay your job title company letter head sign by a boss.

I was told the I-864 was for submission after you get MARRIED. Not for the interview... That may be why they don't care to review it at the interview.
