I went to the Polo outlet store awhile back. On check out I was asked ,"phone Number please and name please.". I said no. The clerk said I cannot open the transaction without it. I said, I am paying cash you have no need for it. He then made another BS explanation. I said no.

He then said, well just make up one so I can start the transaction. He said well I have to have it. I left 300 dollars of Merchandise on the counter and walked.

Business in America has lost site of the fact I do not have to trade with them

Customers fail to realize they still hold the power.

Ukrainian method/

"may I have your phone number?"

No.

"I need it to open the transaction."

Da Svedanya.

Leave merchandise and walk out. You eventually ended there but said too much. There is no arguing with idiots.

you must have skills to overcome computer, C-Lator.

I suggest you adopt a name of 'George Jetson' with a phone number of 'BR-549' the next time you get stumped by a Point Of Sale computer system.

No.

They lose the sale for being invasive. They are no tentitled to George Jetson's information. When a few people do this, it will stop.

It their job to ask, they have to make a living, she probably gets commission and yes America is already in a toilet, a really dirty one that has never been cleaned before and corporate America and the government is pulling the sleigh.

Why do you say, "America is already in a toilet". ?

This VJ site is all about people coming to America.. Why did you come/bring a spouse here If you think "America is already in a toilet", how bad is the country you/your spouse came from.?

and if you complain and think, "America is already in a toilet", why not go to your/your spouse's home country.?

This is not a personal attack. When I hear/see people say things like this, I wonder why and ask..

Loving your country should be about recognizing it's problems as well. No personal attack to you but I can live where the heck I choose.

I hate to see people who pretend America is a paradise and sell fantasies to people about America. It has it's problems like every other country.

We have drugs, gun problems, sexual assault, molestation and rape of children, corrupt coke head politicians, racism, mass murders, corporate America running wild with no checks and balances, etc.

Unlike you, I recognize the problems of my country that I am born and raised in. And it is my right to express dissatisfaction for the problems in this country.

For the record when I retire I will retire to my house in Sri Lanka.

Thank you for asking. I love Sri Lanka with all of it's corruptness as well.

WOW... so now you know me and you can say, "unlike you, I recognize the problems of my country".... Where from my comment did you learn all about me and my inner thoughts.? What did I say to "pretend America is a Paradise".. ???

Obviously you were offended by my question...

Is America the paradise that allowed you to become financially able to live wherever the heck you choose.?, but it is a toilet so you will retire to Sri Lanka...

You are a great American.!

You never saw the words, unlike you, like you, I think you, in my post at all. Your guilt has made you respond like this.

I will retire in Sri Lanka because I have a paid for house there, it is easier to live off of retirement there because of the cheap cost of living, and i hate the cold. Seriously hate the cold and Sri Lanka has no winter.

And there are plenty of Americans that retire to other countries, so why is it you seem upset with me?

Janelle,

I am not upset with you and I understand and agree with all your reasons for retiring in another country. and I agree with what you said about all the problems in America. I was just curious why you called America a toilet. On written forums, sometimes words can be interpreted out of context and maybe that's what I did to you.. Please accept my apology.

My wife is from Russia, and when she says things such as that about America I ask her the same questions.. It makes for stimulating conversations.! :-) but no harm or insult is intended.!

Income is higher in America and so is the cost of living., and I have told my wife that I would be open to consider retirement in Russia.

Peace.

Hi

None taken. I understand your curiosity. America has come a long way but we still have much growth. We are younger than any other country in the world.

My parents on the other hand are not interested in living unless it is for vacation. I would love for them to life in our house but they refuse. They love America and accept their retirement. There are just other places they can get more bang for the buck out of though.

As soon as I start running low on checks, I'll begin interviewing banks. Not only will I check to see which banks are in the supermarkets and therefore open later, and check the weekday evening hours and weekend hours, but I'll grill the branch managers thoroughly on their policy of offensive offers. If they put a hard-sell on me to transfer my bucks, I'll ask, "Will you sign a statement beforehand, agreeing that neither this bank nor any of its employees shall ever approach me with marketing offers in person or in writing?" Their reaction will determine whether I continue or walk out.

Optimally, I'll also stand for a while and observe the action at the tellers' windows. At my "new" bank branch, they don't even count out money for people -- they simply run it through their bill-counter and hand it to the customer. If a security hooligan approaches me and doesn't accept my explanation, I'll loudly say "This bank has just lost my prospective business!" and head for the door.

I visited the "new" branch twice today and was somewhat astonished to be treated nicely. That in itself says something.

In regard to being asked for phone numbers at points of sale, the cashiers have always acquiesced when I've refused to provide a phone number. (I've been tempted to give them one for Ecuador and tell them "not my problem" when they run out of room for all the digits, starting with the 011.) Should any cashier insist, I'll loudly say "Get the store manager out here -- NOW!" I'll then raise a nonhysterical high-volume scene, including insisting on having the cashier's home phone number, the manager's home phone number, and the district office's number before I complete the transaction. If they relent on their "need" for my number, I've won; if they ask me to leave, I'll go public.

---

A Texas Aggie goes into a crowded bank and picks something up off the floor. He loudly inquires, "Has anyone lost a large roll of bills with a rubber band around it?" Several people say, "I did! I did!" The Aggie replies, "Well, I just now found the rubber band."
