Can I have it couriered to the hotel I will be staying at? And how long is it going to take?

Thanks!

They won't courier it to the hotel... they will courier it to your residence... Based on other tales from around the world.. it takes about a week or so...

Joel has his mailed to him...provided the express post envelope at the interview. It took a week. His interview was on a Friday and wasn't able to stay another two days just to pick it up on Monday. Good thing too...it wasn't mailed out til Wednesday. It wouldn't have been ready on Monday anyway.

I do have to interview again...and then they cancel my K3 visa, so I cannot use it to enter, so I have to go back to my parents' house in Toronto and wait for the mail to arrive and lose a lot of money because of missing work  Again, if they gave ANY sort of notice, I/we could have prepared for it better!

just to let you know, I paid an extra $10 and got the next day delivery prepaid envelope and my husband's package got to our apartment before we did. Next day was really NEXT DAY - so I don't imagine you sitting around for long, it was $18 I believe... Montreal to London ON in one business day. ALSO The consular told us that they've only had one passport ever lost in the mail (at least that's what he said!)

I guess its not the speed of the mail service that most are concerned with, but how fast Mtl will get the visa out the door!! Wil lit be roughly the same??? Or wil lthey do the interviews 4 days a week, then 1 day a week they mail them all out? Hopefully it wont be too long

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Could be worse, could be stuck in a 3rd world country starving.

Didnt ya read in one of the other categories that Canada IS a 3rd world country?

Generally speaking, so far as I can tell, people seeking to bring immgrants from poorer, (3rd world), countries are required to provide the affidavit.

Bill

Man the folks in Canada are gonna be pissed when they find out they didn't get the memo that they have been reclassified as a " poorer, (3rd world), " country.

I got a good snort out of that 1

My daughter is a freshman at a Christian college and rather than pursue a path in early childhood education she thinks she's going to go into mission work. Needless to say I responded with a resounding HELL NO YOU'RE NOT. My reasoning is that the world is not a kind place ,it lacks honor and right or wrong I'd rather be wrong with a live child than right with a dead one. I went on to discuss with her the dangers of 3rd world countries etc etc . She responded to my lecture with the following logic.......... " Mom there are a lot of unsafe areas in the US , are you suggesting I don't go anywhere in the US either?" Needless to say I recommended she go back and do her homework if she thought she could even CONSIDER comparing the US to the rest of the world. We couldn't begin to imagine what it's like to exist in some parts of the world. we are definitely lucky to live where we live .....and yeah even Canada ;)

Oh and in Bill's defense.......I really do think he was joking.

I'm really glad my parents encouraged me to do lots of traveling when I was young. Traveling solo throughout Europe, Egypt, North Africa, East Africa, etc. was extremely educational. You just can't get those kinds of educational experiences from reading books or watching documentaries or listening to lectures.

Amen to that! :) I had the opportunity to travel overseas three times in my teens (one school trip, two others basically on my own) and I loved every minute of it. And not all 3rd world countries are dangerous!

Then she had went on to ask me why I didnt chose to do an AOS after getting the K3.
This may be the fly in the ointment for this new system, since some people must have their passports in order to return home to the States, and there's no Canadian address to mail it to them. I'm not familiar with the new form and $200 fee to have your I-130 (?) released from the NVC, but it too sounds like an assumption that most people will pursue the K-3 and Adjust Status later.

We can't tell how long it will take Montreal to "do their work" and send out visas. What exactly is this work the woman spoke of when I called? Are they checking the authenticity of the alien's passport? Or are they letting things pile up so they only have to mail things out once a week?

I-130 sent Mar 30, 06

approved Aug 15, 06

I-129f sent April 24, 06

approved July 27, 06

Oh trust me, im not suggestiong she shouldnt travel and I agree its an awesome experience. What Im suggesting is the TYPE of travel she would be engaged in as a missionary. The world is no longer kind and the days where missionaries, medical people, and aide organizations were protected under an unwritten rule of honor are long gone......the reality is , they make very nice targets. As a missionary, she wouldn't be traveling to see the world's best offerings, in fact quite the opposite.

Anyway , the actual point of my little story was about comparing the US to other places in the world and how we dont realize what other people in the world have to endure on a daily basis.

ok, I had my interview for my CR1 on friday. Seems that there is an exception to this new process. If you live in the US they will give you your visa the next day. Since I got my k3 back in october and I live in the US now, I will be able to go pick up my visa tomorrow.
