the embassy isn't trying to break anyone up, the consulate has a job to do. AP cannot be waived or expedited, they have no control over how long background checks take to clear. Record keeping in Pakistan is horrible at best and trying to complete AP is a long, tedious process when record keeping is so bad. The cannot and do not discriminate because of what you call "mixed marriages".

My husband has lived in the same province and the same city since he was a child. He has never traveled outside of pakistan, not even his province. Background checks have been completed and my case was sent back to USCIS for whatever reason. I did not get a NOIR, what I got was an unannouced visit from a Homeland security officer at 9:30 on a Saturday morning. He interviewed me, inspected my home, bedroom, closet and took pictures. He told me that they do this because people are known to get paid for visas and they were looking for evidence of another man living with me. My husband was in AP for 15 months when my case was requested back by USCIS. They did not find anything on him, so they turned their investigation on to me. Neither one of us has a criminal record, I have a good job and no financial issues. We are a "mixed marriage", as much as we would like to think that they don't discriminate, they do. The embassy COs have complete autonomy.

The problem is, that there is no transparency into the process. People could have to hope if they told us that they have to do X Y Z and we are on step Y. Some people are in AP for months and some for years there is no rhyme or reason as to why they do this.

Completed 9 months and 6 days in Ap!!

Day, weeks may baadal gaiey, aur weeks, months may, aur months year may.

AP means, frustration, wastage of precious time.

Be positive, someday, one day MANHOOS AP will be thing of the past.

Well this is clearly YOUR opinion. Lets analyse this, when we first submit our I130 the USCIS does a BACKGROUND CHECK. Why even have that step if the embassy is going to turn around and do the same thing. So, if the USCIS did the background check b4 approving the petition at step number ONE, there is no reason to do another. Yes, the embassy does have a job to do but they are human like the rest of us and have their own opinions and unfortunately they are in a position where they have the power to destroy peoples lives if the feel like it. Some of them develop a god complex. Some maybe have a bad day, or are prejudice to some people or religion ( not that they would admit it). My problem is not so much that a case goes into AP, my problem is that there is no guidelines no procedures no time frame. Like Janet stated in her comment there is no way of knowing what if any step they are in the process. In my opinion the AP structure needs to change, there has to be a procedure, guidelines, rules, a process, a TIMELY process. As Janet also stated there are at times no reason for the AP. In my case we were not given a reason, they did not request any additional documents.

From what I have researched is that if it is a Muslim country and especially if the beneficiary is male they will go into AP. This is not RIGHT just because they are Muslim that is called prejudiced, discrimination. Now lets add the fact that two people met fell in love and are of mixed races and different religions that is also a red flag to them. WHY? There is no law and nothing wrong with two people falling in love that are of different cultures and different religions but, the embassy considers that as a red flag. My husband and I have no criminal records, we have PROOF of our on going relationship and took all of that to the interview but the interviewer had already made up his mind before my husband even spoke ( I say this because of the looks and the nasty attitude he gave my husband right after he was called for the interview) this man was rude patronizing, judgmental. Whether you want to admit it or not they are trying to brake families apart to avoid issuing visas. Other wise there would not be people in AP for a a year, two, or even 7 like I know of cases. The pain, anguish, stress, and misery this AP process brings into our lives is unreasonable. Bottom line is THE AP PROCESS NEEDS TO CHANGE!
