Applying for jobs whilst waiting on EAD

So, I am a trained teacher, certified in my home country (New Zealand). I am waiting on my EAD and AOS.

I was wondering if it is legal for me to apply for positions for the next school year. Whilst I can't apply for certification or public school jobs without the EAD, there are some private schools I am interested in that are accepting international certifications. The jobs don't start until the next school year (July - September 2014, depending on school). The problem is, the positions are being advertised now, and I don't want to miss out, based on waiting for my EAD. There is one school in particular that I would love to work at, am qualified for (including the "extras"), likes international teachers and is advertising right now! I don't want to do anything illegal though.

So, does anybody know, can I apply for jobs that I intend to take up after recieving my EAD before recieving it?

You can apply, you just can't start working until the EAD is in your hands.

Yes you can apply. I'm a school teacher and I've worked with many teachers that had foreign credentials. (India, Nigeria, England, etc.)

Applying at a private or charter school is a great idea. Also, inquire as to which schools can validate your credentials, here. In NYC, I know that Bank Street College does it. Call the college of education at the nearest American university when you get here and ask them about this.

Applying for work and working are two different things. I see no reason why you cannot apply as long as you do not work until you have authorization to do so. Good luck and GOD BLESS

You certainly can! I don’t think it’s much of a disadvantage while applying as they usually take quite a lot of time choosing among applicants. Most certainly you will get your EAD before they come up with a final decision as this job is rather demanding to the applicants. My current job is like that and I barely managed to get it through Resume Writing Lab as their requirements are extremely high. All in all, I wish you best of luck getting both your EAD and teaching position! - Ann
