Yes you have to apply for EAD and if you want to travel you need advanced parole as well 1765 for work and I-131 for advanced parole.

There is no definitive timetable for how long it will take to AOS but EAD is usually 30-90 days.

Some places are quicker than others, and it depends on how complicated your case is.

Hey and welcome to the USA...

So have you guys set a date to get married yet? After that, concentrate on getting all the AOS paperwork together. It took Mohammed about three months for his EAD and a year to receive his Green card, all depends on how slow things are going with USCIS.

If you plans are to work, then yes, apply for your EAD so you can at least apply and interview months down the road. No one can determine how long it will take for your green card to arrive to work.

Hope you both are enjoying your life together.

Our process took 99 days from mailing the paperwork to receiving my husband's green card. Our process was simplified by him being in the US so we were able to file I130 and I485 concurrently. We also applied for his EAD at the same time and that took 60 days to receive.

All this being said, your timeline will definitely be affected by where you live. We are in Broward County (just north of Miami Dade) and couples in Miami with a situation similar to ours are still waiting for their interviews to be scheduled. Search the forums for people in your situation to get a better feel for the time it will take. Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you came in via K-1 the AOS could take anywhere from 4mths-1yr depending on whether you get an interview or not. Some people get interviews within 4 months of filing. Some people like myself get a "Notice Of Possible Interview Waiver" letter about 4 1/2 mths from filing and the at around the 5th mth the GC was approved. See my signature for timeline. There are also people who have been waiting since February who have received the "Potential Interview Waiver" letter as well. It is random as to whether or not they call you in for an interview or not as you entered on a K-1. The EAD could take between 60-90 days as mentioned above. I received mine 77 days from filing.
