Bashir's insult wasn't sexist. It wasn't even that much of an insult. He didn't say she should be treated in that way, he said that if anyone deserved such a fate it would be her as she has such a fundamental misunderstanding of everything surrounding the issue she was attempting to comment upon. Perhaps a little tasteless, perhaps a step too far for US tv standards but not in any way sexist.

I am not even a fan of his journalistic styles, but to silence someone for such a comment would be absurd, and to label it sexist completely ridiculous.

What about what he said was directed at Palin simply because she is a woman and nothing else? He didn't call her dear, he didn't comment on her looks, he didn't suggest she should stay at home and mind the kids/stay tied to the kitchen sink. He did call her stupid. She is stupid. How is that sexist?
