My fiance (beneficiary) had his passport stolen. He has a police report and in December he will have to re-new it. I am waiting for the case number in order to start the DS-160 .. I bumped into this

To schedule a nonimmigrant visa appointment, you must have the following information and documents available:

  • A passport valid for travel to the United States with a validity date of at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions. If more than one person is included in your passport, each person desiring a visa must submit an application;

DO I HAVE to wait 6 months before I can start the Visa process? I am freaking out!!!

I hope that with the police report someone can turn it in? I think his expiration date is in February?I am not sure ...but I also read this

COUNTRIES THAT EXTEND PASSPORT
VALIDITY FOR AN ADDITIONAL SIX
MONTHS AFTER EXPIRATION
ALgeria was one of them.... does this mean if they find it and his expiration date is in february they can extend it 6 more months?

I think you've misunderstood the "6 months" part. They're saying that you need to have a passport that is valid for *more* than 6 months *after* a person enters the USA. They won't issue a visa into a passport that is going to *expire* in less than 6 months.

You don't have to wait until the passport is 6 months old before you can use it, and get a visa issued into it. A visa can be put in a passport as soon as it's issued.

Lost_at_sea is correct. You're misunderstanding the six month part. It states that the passport has to be valid for six months beyond his intended stay. For example, if he were to enter the US and want to stay until Jan 1st, he would have to have a passport that was valid until at least July 1st.
