fly through Japan with expired green card and extension letter

My green card expires. I have filed ROC, and have I797 extension letter with me.

I will fly Delta airlines from Hong Kong to come back to the States. Delta stops by Tokyo Narita airport, so I have to switch to another plane to come back to Chicago. I am worry that people in Japan will not accept the extension letter. Although I know i have all the documents needed to travel abroad.

I have heard people say Japanese staff in the airport is sorta tough towards people carrying an expired green card.

Anyone has experience taking a flight from Japan while having a expired green card and extension letter? Thanks!
