Ohare is indeed one of the busiest airports in America, but if you look at the layout of it, the international terminal is off by itself. So it is not as daunting at it might appear.

Several of our members had SO's come thru ORD. Kelly, Dawn, Andrea and Amal might be able to share their experience there.

Everything will go through just fine. How much of a lay over before his next flight? Checked the Chicago weather for this week- no snowstorms- chance of rain on Thursday but not particularly cold for Chicago. All looks good there!

thanks, mbp, for checking into weather for me (F) . I don't know flight details yet, hopefully I'll have them later today. I hope the layover is long enough so he doesn't miss his connection if immigration takes their sweet time.

And thank you all - sorry if it seemed like I got a little testy, if I did, it wasn't intentional... being pre-menstrual does not help this week!;)

Nw don't start borrowing trouble. ;) and I have a friend who lives in chicago if there is an emergency. I do not think he knows anyone at the airport, but I am going to call him tonight just in case. don;t get your hopes up, but doesn;t hurt to ask.

Mahmoud's POE was Chicago.

He flew Air France, so the plane was late AND they lost his luggage. It was his first time flying, and when his luggage didn't come out, he didn't know what to do. He stayed back at the baggage claim, waiting and waiting for it to appear, until finally someone asked him what he was waiting for and told him to come on through and make a claim for it at the Air France desk. It was almost 3 hours before he finally emerged into my view, and I was just about to lose my mind -- I had called everyone this side of France trying to figure out if he'd missed the plane or if they were holding him up in immigration or what.

But he said that actually clearing immigration/customs took only a few minutes, and hardly any questions -- they took the mysterious brown envelope, checked his passport, asked him where he was headed and was anyone there to meet him, and that was it. (Haha I guess there was no line by then !) And everyone at O'Hare was really, really nice to him, and to me.

Air France eventually found his bag, and they actually managed to get it onto the right plane for our trip back to Texas the next day. (I had booked a hotel just a mile from the airport to stay overnight and I'm glad I did. Mahmoud was completely exhausted -- he'd been awake for 3 days of travelling all the way from the West Bank, and the last thing he needed was to have to hop on another 3-hour flight. I had room service bring up something to eat, he had a hot shower, and then he was sound asleep before another hour passed.)

So I would have to say Chicago was not bad for us -- in fact it was pretty good.

But I want to say that most of all, Dawn was a HUGE HELP -- I can never thank her enough for all her kindness :luv: She doesn't come around VJ much any more, but she's still my hero !

 congrats on the both of u uniting. Your question has stirred up questions in my mind. I was under the impression that you pick your POE. Also, I live in North Carolina and whenever I go to Morocco, I have to fly from NC to JFK and then take Royal Air Moroc to Morocco. So if JFK is the only airport that gives a temp. EAD, can he use that temp in NC.

You do, for the most part, choose your POE. It was our intention to book thru JFK - push came to shove on booking his ticket and the only affordable, available flight ended up coming thru Chicago. He booked it, I found out after the fact. Good new is: He'll be here this week and at this point I could give a sh!t abt temp EAD....

First of all, major congrats to you noura!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has been a long time coming.

I am posting very late to this thread so I apologize for bringing up a mute topic since I saw that Said is now going through D.C. However, I wanted to add that my fiance went through ORD very recently and was off the plane and through customs in about 2 minutes. It went very quick and smooth.

Now, the main reason I wanted to post is that when we went to the social security office, they told us that he is allowed to work even without the temp EAD because K-1's are allowed to work once they arrive. The application they sent said that he is authorized for a social security number and authorized to work. Once the K-1 is no longer valid, after marriage, he will have to apply for the EAD. I looked up on the government website about it and it does state that K-1's are authorized to work with or without a temp EAD.

Please tell me if I interpreted something wrong!

actually, that is correct. a k-1 is authorized to work on arrival until marriage.

to double check this it is listed at http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=ssn

click on the RM 00203.500: "Employment Authorization for Nonimmigrants"

it will open another window which is on the social security admin site.

scroll down to section C. POLICY - EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION BY CLASS OF ADMISSION

K-1 Fiance(e) of U.S. citizen

is listed as being able to work without ead due to their type of visa

however, i had no luck getting my local ssn office to understand anything about this document due to their incompetence
