I just finished grad school and, while I'm looking for a professional position, I've taken a job that has nothing to do with my degree but manages to pay the bills.

This current job fulfills the "125% above poverty line" requirement, though I don't own any property or other assets beyond that. My father is willing to co-sign on the support affidavit if it's totally necessary, though he would prefer not to.

My question is - In a worst case scenario, if my I-134 was rejected, could we then bring in a co-signer at that point in the process, or would we have to go back to square one and start over again?

From what I gather, making 125% above poverty line seems to be the main criteria for acceptance. I am making more than 125% above poverty line; so with that in mind, my I-134 should be sufficient, yes?

Or no?

Yes, as long as you have enough money, regardless of how you have it (assets, cosponsor, job) you are fine! If your job makes over that line then you've done it :)

O, but if it makes you feel safer then you can always have a cosponsor for your own peace of mind.

Yay, my loved one's first post on visajourney! :luv: Welcome! :dancing: :joy: :dancing:

Yeah, we're really kinda worried about what will happen in case we'll be denied.

But then, we should be fine with Jonnie earning more than 125%.

But then, I'm German, it's in my nature to worry. ARGH!

P.S.: Excellent choice for the avatar pic, Jonnie! :P

I have the same question. I hope that someone knows the answer. I also want to know what happens if we are denied. We have enough income... but their are some special circumstances that complicate things.

IF we are denied, can we at that point bring in a co-sponser, or do we need to start all over again?

I don't know about that, I know there are possibilities to apply for waivers but I really don't know about that process and if it is for denials or something else. If you are unsure that you have enough money get a cosponsor for the interview NOW, don't wait until you are (possibly) denied!

jonnie,

I suspect that if the first sponsor offered (you) is deemed to be unsatisfactory, they'll give you some time to come up with a different sponsor who is satisfactory.

If you're worried about it, do as James_and_Miranda suggest and start getting prepared now.

Yeah, haha, but we were FIRST, mwahahaha!

No seriously, one thread should be enough. I'm thankful for the information on both and I guess Jonnie will be too when he checks VJ after work.
