We just returned from the SS office with the printed I-94, passport/visa. We are not married yet but are applying for her SS# now anyway. The lady at the office said that she needs her I-94 card that she was given upon entry into the US. I told her that she was not given one. The I-94 I printed has her Admission #, passport #, Most recent date of entry, etc. and she said that there is more information that is needed from the I-94 in order for her to apply for a SS#. What or who is wrong here?

Oh yeah, she also said she needed her green card first....I held back.

The SS office is wrong. Go back, ask for supervisor. Tell supervisor that worker needs to be trained on new I-94 system.

Which location did you apply for SSN at? Did you bring the RM 10211.530 document?

For what it's worth, I applied in Campbell, California, and was approved with just the printout of the I-94 and passport of the applicant (+ SS-5). Hope everything works out for you.

When I applied for a change in name for my SS card, the lady asked for my marriage certificate and the I-94. When I showed her a printed copy of the I-94, she said she needed the original one. I stood my ground and said, "If you read the fine print below it says that as of April, the I-94 is automated." She read it and said, "Oh, this is the first time I've seen this. Alright." And then she processed my SS card.

Ask the lady to read the fine print. Hope that helps.

Jessica

Okay...today I called the office again and told them about the I-94 that I printed and the verbiage on the bottom of the form that reads : Effective April 26, 2013 DHS..........

They told me that there should at least be a stamp on the visa/passport stamped as "I-94". Nowhere is there a stamp for this. The only stamps are the exit stamp from the Cartagena airport and the entry stamp with a date then hand-written K1. I'm thinking that I need to direct them to this webpage or print it out and bring it with me http://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/cbp-begins-implementation-form-i-94-automation

Any thoughts???

They're morons.

Go in-person, ask for a supervisor immediately. Take the passport, printed I-94, birth certificate, and the RM document linked above. That is all you need, provided there are at least 14 days of validity left on the I-94.

In addition, you could also print this document which describes the new I-94s: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211135

Using a telephone is useless, if'n you want to be successful in chasing down a SSN.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

All the advice above is good. Don't waste your time on the phone, it's kind of like watering your concrete driveway in an attempt to make it grow. Take your I-94 printout & passport. EAD/GC is only required if you don't get SSN before the 90-day (less 14 for applying) mark. And be prepared to stay a while, cuz I wouldn't leave until you were properly processed. Supervisor is the way to go. More importantly, patiently explaining to the maroons who work there how their own system has changed.

Just like the gubmint to make a policy change, and not inform the people who operate under said policy.
