Visa Approved in Mumbai!!

Today my fiance had his interview and was approved!! :dance::dance: Well...he has to get one more police certificate, :wacko: but once that is turned in he will get the official stamp!!

He had a long, tiring day. He was the first one in, but the last one interviewed and walked out of the consulate around 3 - 3:30. I do not have any details yet, but once he gets back home in a couple of days, he will call me and tell me all about it. I will then write it up.

We still have a couple of months before he comes, :( but at least this part of our journey is over! I had been so scared all this time....hardly any sleep last night......we had some definite obstacles against us - we are against the "norm" in India, but we had family support on both sides and of course our love for each other!

Thanks to everyone and VJ. Without this site, I do not know where we would be!! :thumbs:

He had a long, tiring day. He was the first one in, but the last one interviewed and walked out of the consulate around 3 - 3:30. I do not have any details yet, but once he gets back home in a couple of days, he will call me and tell me all about it. I will then write it up.

We still have a couple of months before he comes, :( but at least this part of our journey is over! I had been so scared all this time....hardly any sleep last night......we had some definite obstacles against us - we are against the "norm" in India, but we had family support on both sides and of course our love for each other!

Thanks to everyone and VJ. Without this site, I do not know where we would be!! :thumbs:

First of all Many congrats and happy reunion! Do talk to him and provide us detailed info on his visa interview. It would definately be a great help as my wife also has an interview on Jan 4th at mumbai embassy. i m nervous as hell and so darn depressed about this whole thing!

ELW - I am not sure what online form you are asking about. He did download Packet 3 and 4 from the consulate web-site. They sent him a completely incorrect Packet 3 and when I received the e-mail on November 27th stating the interview date was December 18 he only had a maximum of 6 days to get everything completed and taken to the VFS office.

In regards to the police certificate, his situation is different than what the consulate web-site lists for police certificate requirements. His passport was originally issued in Mumbai as his hometown did not have a passport office at that time. When he was last here in the States his passport would expire so he went to Indian consulate in Chicago and got it renewed.

The Mumbai consulate website clearly states: Police clearance certificate from the passport office that issued your passport. Well in his case that would now be Chicago. However Chicago would issue a police clearance certificate for his stay in the States which is not required.

He contacted the Mumbai passport office and they told him since his current passport was issued in Chicago he would need to contact them for this certificate which as you can tell would be useless.

So he was stuck. We both tried contacting the consulate. They e-mailed me the same information noted on their web-site. Apparently they did not understand his particular situation or they had no clue. Even when he took his documents to the VFS office, they were unsure what to do.

He apparently discussed this at his interview. He was issued some kind of letter to take to the Mumbai passport office and they should issue some kind of certificate. Once he gets that he is to take it and his passport to the VFS office who will then courier it to the consulate for his Visa!!!

I don't imagine there are too many people in a situation like this. Just our luck though that the consulate did not have clear instructions for people whose last passport was issued in the United States!!

This is about all he told me this morning. His cell was running down and he did not have his charger with him. So I just have to have patience now until he gets back home (hopefully we will talk tomorrow evening - Tuesday night for me, Wednesday morning for him).

Again, thanks for all your support. Once he gets back home he will call me and we will go into details about his interview. As soon as I have that I will post it!
