London: Interview date notification process?

Hi,

I submitted my final documents (Spousal) on 12 October, but in the cover letter explained that I would prefer the interview to be early December as I was planning to be out of the country until then. They acknowledged receipt of my letter, as it also contained change of address, by email on 16 October. Just checked and latest CEAC says status updated 12 November.

As yet I have no notification of an interview date. How far in advance are London tending to let people know the interview date?

So... They have stated on their twitter feed a couple times that they are taking 6 weeks to get interview dates out (from receipt of the last bit of info on you, be that medical results or readiness forms etc.) and then the window the interview may be in could be as little as a week away or a whole month out or more (from when you get the letter).

Sometimes, people just don't get the letter telling them about their interview and only find out by calling the DoS line. You should probably give that a bell.

Of course, since you asked for something after Dec 3rd, they might not have been able to slot you until closer to the date range that would work for you (December/January), which is why you might not have got anything yet - but that's just my speculation.

We're K-1, and I think the process is a little different, but they only gave us 2 weeks notice. Which surprised the heck out of us... we weren't expecting an interview until mid-December, so we'd started making plans for my fiance to come over and visit this weekend, but then out of the blue we got a letter saying the interview was November 21st (meaning he wouldn't have his passport for this weekend, so we had to cancel our plans).

It's not hard and fast 6 weeks, but it seems to fit with people's recent experiences.

Thanks Protocol417, sorry to hear about your loss of a visit but good news on your interview date. I guess I need to be patient then, if they can come so close. So much for organising life!!

I submitted a cover letter at that stage explaining that I was going to be in England visiting my in-laws and was scheduling our medicals for X date so if possible could they fit us in for interview in that two week time frame. I got a phone call within a matter of days of them receiving the letter informing me that myself and the kids were scheduled for interview the day after our medicals. I don't know why it worked and I certainly did not expect it to work but the cover letter did it's job. Perhaps, therefore, it is worth a follow up phone call, though if there is a 6 week back log them fitting you in is less likely.

Hurrah - both the reply to the on-line enquiry form and the actual letter from the Embassy arrived today - interview is 9 Dec. Brilliant. Guess getting to the USA for Christmas may not work, given the 10 days passport return window - but won't be very long afterwards.

Yeah. You might just make it for xmas, but I imagine last minute flights then get expensive.
