I read a post in the non topic area about 13 things that people did not realize until they came to the US.. So just to lighten things up and give some smiles.. Let us start a list? 1 thing you miss of US when you travel to your spouse and 1 thing you think your spouse will enjoy in the US..

I miss when I travel the freedom to do whatever and whenever I want.. It is often to dangerous to this when I visit..

I think my wife will enjoy hot water!! Hot water is not "necessary" there.. Haha.. I can just imagine seeing her face with her first hot bubble bath :)

Finished for now!!

My husband lived here before so I will tell you what he misses.. Not necessarily in this exact order.

1. ME !

2. Shopping in the US and the ability to buy as many pair of NIke and Puma's that his heart desires.

3. Making decent money every week

4. Atlantic City

5. NYC

6. Cheesesteaks PHILADELPHIA STYLE

7. American pizzaria pizza ( it just doesnt measure up in Costa Rica...and after living in Philly, there is no other place better to eat pizza)

8. Coors Light

He doesn't have hot water in his house now and even when he was here he never used the hot water anyway. Sometimes old habits die hard

I personally couldn't live without hot water... ha ha

This is great, thanks for starting this, it surely relieves some stressers (and makes you plan!)

My husband's only been to the US very briefly on travel tours, only to the US Mainland one of those times, and that was only in CA. What he will LOVE about being here vs in Japan:

1) wide streets smile.png

2) every kind of cuisine (vs Asian)

3) not having to recycle in to five bags every day

4) no winter (in Florida)

5) pizza without fish heads and other weird things

6) the ability to drive anywhere in the Continental US (and Canada/Mexico of course) and get somewhere outside the state in less than five hours

7) less ugly typhoons (hurricanes)...knock wood

8) a yard for his doggy to play in

9) family....he has NO family in Japan (except his son).

10) celebrating Christmas!

11) no 14hr time difference btwn us

.....I should stop here...there is too much! smile.png

I recommend one of the beach locations. I have only been to Jaco in the 25 times I've been to that country.

I usually spend my time way up in the mountains. I have never been to one of the resorts.

I think you should definitely hit one of the typical TICO restaurants to get the feel of the culture.

Hold on to your hats because Costa Rica is very difficult to navigate. no adresses and no street signs. You have to know North , South, East or West if you ask for directions !!

Lucybelle lives there. She can probably recommend much more than me.

I meant to ask you... Do you know where there are any AMERICAN grocery stores? Maybe near the Airport or somewhere in SJ? I am arriving on Thanksgiving day and I told my husband I want to grocery shop before we head up the mountain to the house. Its a 2 hour drive from the airport. I want to cook a Thanksgiving dinner for them. Pali and Mega Super just don't cut it. Maybe Walmart but I wanted something different if possible

Oh cow is a very normal thing on the road, but with the population size there are so many vehicles on the road and god forbid if anyone follow the traffic rules. All the traffic police on intersection has a stick in hand so no one really cares even if they try to stop someone from speeding. When I was there our drive just ran thru the red light and police was right there knocking on the window of our car and the driver didn't care, he just kept on driving and police gave up haha!
