Hi all,

As this is my first post, I'd like to start off by saying a huge thanks to everyone who posts on these forums; your contributions are invaluable and very much appreciated.

Now, here's my situation:

I applied for a B2 tourist visa in September of this year and scheduled an interview. Shortly before the interview, however, my fiancée and I had a change of plans. I'd originally planned to apply for a B2 so we can see each other somewhat regularly for upto six months at a time, but now our situation has changed and we're looking to apply for a K1 ASAP to get married and live together. I didn't show for the B2 interview due to the last-minute change of plans, so my application seems to be in limbo. I'm completely unsure of what to do from this point. Will I be required to cancel the B2 application in order to apply for K1, or will it be cancelled automatically upon applying for a K1? If I must cancel it, how would I go about doing so?

I believe that, at this point, I'll be required to re-apply for ESTA (to travel to see my fiancée whilst the K1 is processing) and must state that I've had a previous visa cancelled due to the incomplete B2 application. Can anyone confirm that this is correct? Does anyone have any idea of my success rate for re-applying for ESTA in this situation?

I'm sorry for all the questions, but this situation is confusing me and I've been unable to find any completely relevant information elsewhere.

Thank you for your time!

hi there, my fiance applied for the B2 so he could visit me longer than the 3 months and he was denied due to "not havng enough ties to the UK" so we went ahead and applied for the K1. I'm not sure if his B2 is totally cancelled out but u should be able to just start applying for the K1. it is a long process so get on it asap. the sooner the better. My fiance has his interview date dec 13th and we first sent our packet in the end of march. everyones visa takes a different amount of time. but I would just start the K1. and maybe have him re apply for his esta so he can visit in the mean time. hope this helps. Visa Journey has helped us thru this process or we woulda been completely lost since the embassy doesnt really help u lol goodluck!! :)

Thanks for your response, and you are indeed correct :) Just got off the phone with the London US embassy, they told me that I can just leave the B2 and apply for the K1, and I won't need to re-apply for ESTA. Problem solved, huge relief!

If you called the help line then you were talking to people who seem to have little knowledge of immigration law.

Generally there is only 2 outcomes to a B2 Visa application, approval or denial.

Denial means you have to update ESTA.

But what if he never went to the interview and didn't get an approval nor denial?

Do you have access to the interview scheduling portal? You can send a ticket asking how to cancel your application. Not sure if you'll get refunded or if you'll be even allowed to withdraw it though.
