Hello everyone! As with everyone else in this "new members" forum, I'm new to this (surprise!). I have been reading the many stories and forums on VisaJourney for several months now and have finally built up the courage to join as I am finally starting the process of filing my petition. I am so happy to have read so many of your inspirational stories over the course of the past few months and it just feels so good to know that I'm not alone in this somewhat confusing process. My fiance and I have known each other for over 3 years now and have both been back and forth between the States and South Africa for the past 2 years, with my last stint in South Africa from late December through mid-July. He returned to the States with me in July with the intent to ask my parents permission for my hand in marriage and proposed on August 2nd, almost just before he left. As you all already know, the distance is hard and costly so we are so excited and nervous to start this process. Can't wait to get the ball rolling!

Just curious, you have "F-1" visa listed on your profile; did you mean fiance visa which is a K-1? Because for those, they have been moving CRAZY fast; I have a friend who did it and within 2 months had their NOA (notice of action) 2 and was sent on to the NVC. The NVC (in my case) sent it on within 3 weeks. Blazing fast! Just be sure you have ALL of your paperwork, double-check all signatures, be prepared for your AOS (affidavit of support) and God willing, things will go smoothly for you guys!

Hahah see?! I have no clue what I'm doing! Thanks! I just updated it hahah. I am waiting for my fiance to send me his G325A, passport photo and his letter of intent so I can get the petition in asap. Question, do they want my actual birth certificate/passport? Or just a copy of it? And do I have to send both? Or can I just send my passport? Which lockbox address is best to send it to? I think I'll probably send it via express mail, so the USCIS. Attn: I-129F. 2501 South State Highway 121 Business, Suite 400, Lewisville, TX 75067 address. Well, I guess I meant questions and not question.

Welcome and congratulations! It was a 7 month process for us, and so happy the waiting game is finally over. Best of luck to both of you, it truly is worth all of the effort.

Certified copy of the birth certificate and then photo copy of your passport

Do not submit any originals, only copies- notarized if they request it. Good luck with the process!

Exactly
