This well educated woman was laid off about the time Obama was elected. It was Bush's fault (of course) she was laid off and she voted for Obama to "fix" the economy.

As for millions of others, she has dropped out of the work force having exhausted her benefits and is no longer counted in the unemployment figures. Less than 2/3 of Americans are working (62.8% as of October, 2013) Hardest hit are young people and African Americans. Blacks are worse off in every economic category since Obama was inaugerated.

Whille the stock market soars to 16,000 and the 1% are wealthier than ever....minorities and young people are relegated to part time jobs (to avoid paying for Obamacare) or unemployed altogether. The middle calss is being sytematically destroyed to increase the dependent class.

What exactly is that figure you posted right there? Where did you get it from? It's certainly not in the article you posted.

Workforce participation. U-6 It is available information in the public domain published each month and well known by informed people. It is directly related to the topic of the article I posted. It is a ratio of the percent of people participating in the workplace. It includes both employed and unemployed people collecting benefits. When people's UI benefits are exhausted they are removed from the workforce and no longer "count". the UI rate (U-3) is reduced both by people getting jobs and people dropping out of the workforce. In October, 200,000 people got new jobs and 932,000 dropped out of the workforce. AKA "gave up trying" See below. The "obama recovery" does not exist. When Obama ended the 99 week extension of UI benefits (Remember how you guys bashed Kip for collecting those benefits?) it caused an immediate drop in the unemployement rate. YAY Obama!

The biggest reason employment has been dropping has nothing to do with politics. Productivity gains (automation, etc.), without similar gains in economic growth has made it unnecessary for companies to hire as many people as they used to.

This trend has been going on for 30+ years.

I get it. The President has no affect on the economy and should never be blamed or credited for anything related to the economy. OK.

Mathmatically the simplified number you hear each month (because it is what the administration that has nothing to do with the number wants you to hear) is the precentage of the workforce that is out of work, not the percentage of the population. (You probably knew that, right?) In other words...of the 62.8% of the population currently participating in the workforce, just less than 8% of them are unemployed. In other words...8% of 63% are out of work and 55% of the population has a job.

That is the overall rate. Rates for minorities and young people are dismally lower. 15% of all people age 16-24 are neither working nor in school

For someone who didin;t know what the U-6 was yesterday you have some profound theories. I am not a good one to comment on "rightthink" whatever that is. Seems like you have a better grasp of that so why don't you inform us?

When Obama took office he pushed for the 99 week extension of UI benefits, even threatened a shutdown of statues over it. Extending the UI benefits increased the number of people on UI and raised the unemployment rate! "Oh NO! We have to do something!" So he increased food stamps, welfare benefits, passed the porkulous spending act, extended the Bush tax cuts in order that he could claim to be "doing something"

When the election was coming up (2012) he ceased the extension of unemployment, dumped millions of unemployed people off the workforce rolls and lowered the UI "rate" just prior to the election. Accused of increasing poverty, the food stamp and welfare increases were allowed to expire. YAY! People now have less money to buy food but the government is spedning less on food stamps so VOILA! less poor people!

The President has manipulated the figures and benefits to claim first "a terrible economy" left by GWB and later "a wonderful recovery" credited to BHO. It's nonsense

You have a very rightcentric view of what is wrong with the world,. blaming everything that goes wrong in government as being the fault of Democrats. If that does not qualify you for right wing views I do not know what does. Clearly just saying Obama and the Democrats did it isn't an explanation. If they did it, how did they do it? The poor and unemployed are poor and unemployed because they want to be and want to suck up all the benefits that Obama offers them. That's what I was told anyway, when he was re-elected. They just wanted free stuff, man.
