Was in Accounting & Finance in home country ... But what in the US?

Hey all,

wondering if anyone could give me some ideas ... if the immigrant was in Accounting and Finance in their home country (managerial level) what possible jobs could they look for in the US? Given that their education isn't transferrable here (MBA) and 10yr experience probably not either. Any ideas on related jobs they could apply for? Or even what type of training or education they'd need (minimal, obviously not going to redo an MBA) for a decent jobs? Thank you!

Why isn't the degree or experience transferable?

Well according to what I read online ... being an accounter or analyst in California where we plan to live) my husband's country's education is worthless ... basically European, Australian and American can be transferred. Not sure if this is 100% but that's what I've read. He'd have to redo least 2yr deg in accounting then pass the exam. I doubt we could sacrifice 2yrs for him to redo his education. I'm not sure, just looking for options here.

Try starting with a bookkeeping position. When he shows his capabilities, he'll probably get the chance for more responsibility.

I would suggest going through an agency like Accountemps or Robert Half. They do some (hokey) testing and then place into jobs that are at least semi suitable. They don't cost anything to the applicant and I've personally gone through those two (both are Robert Half companies) twice and gotten into two great jobs! They have connections wtsh recruiting / HR departments. Even a temp job can sometimes turn into something more when skills of the individual in the actual job are shown.. Good luck!
