I guess no one has real input to my initial post, anyway.

For others that may be reading, if you file an i131 reentry permit, you maintain LPR status while being abroad.

Up to 2 years.

Responses 3 and 5 are the closest you'll get to a response. She *might* get a tourist visa. Chances are only as good as her ties are strong.

Please note that it does not guarantee entry into the United States upon your return as you must first be determined to be admissible; however, it will assist you in establishing your intention to permanently reside in the United States

You have to read the whole thing.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Hello,

I am a US Citizen, and I filled for my mom's I130, my mom's I130 got approved, and the plan is that she would come and spend Summer 2014 in the United States, my sister who is 18, wants to come, obviously, she will have to apply for a tourist visa.

What's the likelihood that she will be granted a tourist visa? Slim to none. A single woman who is 18 YO and has a Brother in the US and a Mother coming to the US. She needs very, very strong ties to Egypt to show that she will return and not remain in the US with her other relatives.

What's the likelihood that she will be turned away at POE if she accompanies my mother on the trip? Slim to none as the CBP only denies entry to those who they feel are abusing their Visa or GC--i.e. like making a trip back to the US once every five months. The first couple of times will be successful (usually), but if the pattern continues then the person will be denied entry and loose the GC.

Thanks!

I guess I do not understand why you applied for your Mother when she is not yet ready to make the US her home. Filing the I-131 for a re-entry permit does not guarantee your Mother will be allowed to re-enter the US unless she maintains ties to the US while in Egypt. I would strongly suggest you go to the USCIS website and look at the requirements for maintaining LPR status for your mother so she does not lose it and you have to start all over again.

For your sister, you will not know unless you try. You will only be out the visa fee if she is denied.

Good luck,

Dave

My sister got a tourist visa last week. Should be picking up passport in 10 days.

As to why my mom is not migrating yet; it's mainly because my sister is 19, and she wants to petition for her under F2A. (Children and spouses of permanent residents)

Thanks for your input.

Congratulations!! I am glad she was able to get a visa. Too many times we hear about the refusals only. I hope she has a good time in the US.

Your mom needs to file that petition from the US so she needs to make sure she maintains her US residency and if it was me I would have already filed the petition to reserve my spot in the line for when (if) F2A's become current again.

I hope your mom isn't traveling from Egypt to the US on return tickets, that would be a major red flag and the sort of thing that would make CBP exercise their discretion.
