A minor correction - you assumed the 90 days was linked to the validity of the USCIS petition. I referenced a document posted by the Department of State that clearly outlines the validity of the medical in certain cases involving TB, and also corroborates the timelines posted in the other two threads.

Personally, I have never felt the need to be antagonistic to someone who has an opposing point of view to my own in a discussion. YMMV. smile.png

Here is another K1 poster, ManilatoSeattle, who was informed their medical had a validity of 3 months. In a previous post, they said they had "Minimal Tuberculosis findings 7 years ago" and were treated for 6 months.

Did you even read what they posted? They did the SPUTUM and upon completion posted they only had 3 months left of their validity of their medical (which is incorrect), even there they are mixing things up as the medical is good for 1 year, but the 6 month visa validity is tied to the initial date of the medical so for that they could very well be down to 3 months. But this has nothing to do with only having 90 days to enter the USA after completion of the 6 month TB treatment - this person did NOT do that.

No one is disagreeing that after sputum testing the visa applicant could have as little of 3 months to get their visa and enter the USA.

Things that boring in the Singapore forum that you are to come over to the Philippine forum and then post links to folks doing SPUTUM tests and only have a few months left to complete everything after that? That is not the point of the discussion.

Things *are* pretty boring in the Singapore forum, but, well, we're a small handful of filers, so that can't be helped. ;)

The reason I am posting is because, personally, I *need* the full 6 months (work commitments, etc). If it turned out I had only 3 months, as many others have (including those from Manila, from what these posts suggest), and I was told with no uncertainty that I could look forward to the full 6 months, well, I'd be upset. Sorry, but I am not convinced that ALL K1 medicals in SLEC/USEM are going to be valid for 6 months - the regulations say otherwise, and there are a number of cases that have posted about medicals with less than 6 months validity, even if you choose to discount them.

I posted earlier that the 3 month validity of the medical could be due to history of TB (which ManilatoSeattle has) or following the 6 month treatment. Actually, it all boils down to history of TB because you will only be asked to undergo treatment if, in fact, you have TB (following which you will have had a history of TB).

If you have had a history of TB (but not active), you might have scarring that shows up on the Xray, which would require sputum testing. It takes 2 months to get the results. That leaves 4 months for the interview, not 3 (seems strange that so many would post "incorrect" number of months/days, seems more likely that the 3 month/90 day spiel was in fact provided to them). The OP did not say that they had three months left but that the medical report had a validity of 3 months.

None of this is contradictory to the following statements:

K1 visas are generally issued for 6 months - generally, but not always

K1 visas are valid for a maximum of 6 months - maximum, but could be less.

Add this to the fact that many other consulates are adhering to the regulations which very clearly state that under certain classes of TB, travel clearance is only provided for 3 months. You may discount this because it is a generic clause, but it is not so unlikely that SLEC/USEM abide by it as well.

NONE are valid for a full 6 months, they have a potential 6 months, but it is NEVER 6 months. Even if everything goes quickly from get to gone visa validity may only have 5 months remaining once received.

Many never know they have scaring or TB issues until they are at SLEC so past history is not always an indicator.

No one is disputing that the visa validity may be less than 6 months. The validity of the travel clearance (term used in the regulations)/medical (which is why K1 visas are tied to the medical) is 6 months in most cases, less in others.

The "indicator" is the applicants medical classification (class A/B/etc). Class B includes those with previous history of certain types of TB - US embassy-approved panel physicians (including SLEC) would have more information on how to classify each case, including the evidence presented before them, i.e. the xray scans, sputum results, etc.

I've got to get to work, so you get a break from my persistence. :P

Hi guys, I just wanna ask if you have a document that states that your medical result will expire after 3 months due to sputum and culture? I badly need a copy for my job. I am an army here in USA and about to be deployed this month at Afganistan. I need that document as a proof for my commander to allow me to wait for my fiancee and marry her before deploying. My fiancee do not have a copy of such document. Thank you.
