Is there a way to just file crba when child gets to US? Because when my fiance and our daughter went for interview for k1 and k2 they returned our daughters passport because they want us to file for crba, we wanted to spend thanksgiving together so is there a way she can just get a k2 for now?

You can apply for a passport when you are in the US. However you will not get a US birth certificate if you don't complete the CRBA process abroad. I would advise completing a CRBA. The Embassy can always issue an emergency passport for your child for immediate travel.

No. The embassy already refused to issue your daughter a K2 visa. You should file for CRBA so the child can get a US passport.

How long does crba process takes? Now im just hoping for them to make it in time for christmas and our daughters first bday!

Well I went to the embassy in Trinidad and Tobago last week tuesday to file for my daughters CRBA and apply for her US passport.I had my us passport, naturalization certificate, social security statement and a job letter. The whole process took about 20 minutes at the embassy. What happens is the consulate looks at the CRBA application first and decides to approve it.Once approved you pay for it and then you go back and do the passport application. Then pay and it's done. 15 mins for CRBa about 5-10 mins for passport. They gave us an estimate that her passport would be ready on Nov 26th.I got an email yesterday stating the passport was ready for pickup...just 9 days later.

Hopefully it happens quickly for you just as ours did.

I applied for crba with me and my daughter only. Hubby was not around. There are more docs thatbthey require but theyaa re just easy ones. If you get all docs available, get an appointment. Should your crba app be approved, you will get your kids crba and passport in 30'days

No such thing as a US birth certifcate for a person born abroad, he or she already possess one from his/her country they only receive one FS-240

The FS-240 certifcate, is an official record of U.S. citizenship issued to a person under age 18 who was born abroad to United States citizen parent(s)

The FS-240 is reconized by a lot of organizations (i.e. Social Security Administration) as a birth certificate. I apologize if there was a major confusion here that may leed to a substantial huge problem with unforseeable outcome.

SSA does not see it as a birth certificate, but rather a formal document certifying the acquisition of U.S. citizenship at birth by a person born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent(s). Under U.S. law (22 U.S.C. 2705) it is proof of U.S. Citizenship in legal terms, it establishes a “prima facie case” of U.S. citizenship. As we all should know one does not need a U.S.or any birth certificate to acquire an SSN.

My apologies, how could I forget this. I guess it doesn't matter that it certifies the date, place of birth and lists the parents in it. I guess no one could see this as a de facto substitute for the original birth certificate.

Hi Zergjaime, we had the same experienced. It's just that our's are CR1/CR2. They refused to give my child a visa and was referred to ACS for CRBA. They took my passport but it's been 20days my visa status is still A/P. (Interview February 4th 2014)

My question: have your wife received her passport with visa after even if you're not done with your child's CRBA?

Thanks
