Hey guys how is everyone? Does anyone have any experience driving from Negril to Kingston? I'm worried because my husband is insisting that we leave at 3 in the morning to get to the the embassy for an 8 am appointment. I keep insisting that we stay overnight in Kingston the night before but he refuses. Is this going to give us enough time? The driver doesn't know where the embassy is either. Its a friend of his. Should we leave a lot earlier?

Oh and good luck to everyone on upcoming interviews. I am nervous as heck!!!

R U gonna be paying driver and how much, then pay him to wait

or pay him overnite? getting to Kingston the nite B4 is a good idea,

unwind in the hotel, and go to embassy fresh the next morning,

many reasonable hotels caters to ppl from Cayman & elsewhere

with visa appointments.

Knutsford Express takes ppl into New Kingston, A/C, comfort, most

tourists R riders, professional, uniformed drivers & their website accept

payments, has schedules and other info....best of luck

Of course anything can happen, but yes that is enough time to get there from Negril. My fiance is about 15 minutes outside of Negril and when he went previously he left at about 3:30am and made it there before 7:00am. It shouldn't be hard to find the embassy either once you guys hit Kingston. Remember... once you guys get into Kingston just ask a taxi driver. Also, a friend of mine had his interview at 8:00am and didn't arrive until after 8:30am and he was still interviewed. Not to say that is a guarantee, but it is an example of them still interviewing if you are late, but I'm sure you guys won't be. yes.gif Relax, he's almost home.

I would suggest you stay in Kingston overnight, I've had to go to the Embassy a couple times from Ochi Rios and I had to leave at like 4:00 am. You don't want to drive from Negril and then have to sit and wait several more hours for an interview that's gonna make you crabby think about it, it makes way more sense to just stay in Kingston overnight, especially if the driver doesn't know his way plus consider traffic. that's what I've done the last three times i had to go. Good luck at the embassy.

We stayed at a lovely hotel in Kingston - The Four Seasons (no, not THAT Four Seasons, lol) and it was very close to the embassy. Had a nice dinner the night before, tried to sleep and arrived in plenty of time the next morning. Makes no sense driving from Negril in the middle of the night. Best of luck to you both!

Girl.. Christar villa hotel is the best place to stay plus its right up the road from the embassy and its best you go from the night before because Hope road is always busy in the morning and full of traffic. Do not take the risk of driving down that same morning

Thanks all for the helpful responses. I am going to try to talk hubby into staying overnight. But man is he stubborn!!

Once we're at the embassy anyone know how long of a wait to actually get inside? Do we let the guard at the door know we are there for a CR1 marriage visa?

Prepare to wait 2-3 hours. We drove from Mo'Bay leaving at 3:30 am. Our interview was not scheduled until 9 a.m. We did not know how to get to the embassy but were able to ask around figured it out rather quickly. I think there are some good suggestions about staying overnight so you don't stress yourselves out before such an intense experience. Good luck!

I believe that your best option is to stay over night at a hotel. I am not sure what anyone else experience was but when I went to the embassy with my spouse on Oct 25, I was informed that I had to wait across the street as there was no waiting area designated for individuals without interview. They also do not allow the spouse inside unless the your presence is requested. You also do not need to inform the guard as to the type of visa being applied for as it will not make a difference to them.

Best of luck on your upcoming interview.

OMG same experience for me. However, I did not wait across the street. I stayed in the front under the shadded benches. I don't think they are allowed to ask US Citizens to leave the grounds like that. It's technically US soil. I did non-us were asked to wait across the street.

I think spending a nite at a hotel before together (like mini vacation)

would be soothing, than driving , being tired on arrival, gridlock with

those going to school and work, tempers will flare. You want to get there

looking and being fresh.

Take the bus it will work out cheaper, and give you time with him alone

to talk going and coming. I am sure his friend is not doing this free, I

hear gas is over $100 gall there...don't let things scare you

Jihana I totally agree but getting hubby to agree is a different story!! He is so darn stubborn. And yes I will have to pay his friend like 150-175. His uncle wanted to charge us 250 and my husband said that is too much. So we shall see...
