What are the poverty lines for I-134?

A. 100%

B.125%

A or B? I don't need a huge paragraph with an explanation. Is it A or B ? please advise. Thank You!

It may depend on the consulate/embassy. All the I-134 instructions say is, "As the sponsor, you must show you have sufficient income and/or financial resources to assure that the alien you are sponsoring will not become a public charge while in the United States."

However, after you and your fiance(e) are married you'll file for Adjustment of Status (AOS). At that point the sponsor will definately be required to prove 125% of the poverty guidelines. So while it may or may not be 100% at the interview, it'll definately be 125% later. Basically, if the sponsor is only making 100% of the poverty guidelines at the time of the interview and that's accepted, they'll only have a few months to step it up to 125% to fill the requirements for AOS.

I know you didn't want a paragraph... and I just gave you two... but... I couldn't figure out how to shorten that. :blush: Sometimes, with this crazy visa process, there just isn't a short answer.

hi,

i think it depends on the consul at the embassy you're going to have your interview. iwhen i had my interview, the pre-interviewer had told me bluntly that my fiancé's income is kind of low. yet when i had my interview with the consul she didn't even mentioned about it. by God's grace and mercy I successully passed the interview and will be leaving tomorrow evening (from the tPhilippines) to be with my fiancé in SFO, California.
