Hello,

I'm filling out my G-325A form now and want to make sure I do it right so as not to create any more delays.

My questions are below:

1) At the top of form G-325A it asks for a 'File Number' (A number), I assume that is the number on my Certificate of Citizenship at the top that is in red, correct?

2) At the bottom of form G-325A it asks for an 'Alien Registration Number' (A number)... which number is that and where do I find it?

Any help is very much appreciated,

Your A# is the alien registration number you had before becoming a citizen (if you are not a natural born US citizen.)

You don't know the file number so don't worry about it.

Hi NLR,

Thanks for the reply.

On my Certificate of Citizenship, I have a red 'A Number' at the top right hand corner of the certificate.

Then below that in the upper left hand corner of the certificate, I have an 'Application Number'.

You said: You don't know the file number so don't worry about it.

I thought the file number is the red 'A Number' at the top right hand corner of the certificate? That is the number I put there.

As for the 'Alien Registration Number' I still don't know where I am supposed to find that number. Anyone here have any idea?

Like I said, they couldn't have made this a little less confusing and simpler, like maybe an 'A number' and a 'B number' or something? But oh yea, they're bureaucrats.

Okay, so I found a few definitions for 'Alien Registration Number' and even though I did immigrate to the U.S. when I was a child with my family, I am assuming that I don't have one of these numbers, as I cannot find a Green Card anywhere. My citizenship was acquired through Naturalization.

If I am wrong about that and I should have an 'Alien Registration Number', someone please correct me.

As for the 'File Number' (A Number) on the form, I still don't know if I should put the Certificate of Citizenship red 'A Number' there or not.

If anyone knows the answer to that, please let me know. Don't really look forward to a bureaucrat telling me I completed their impossible to complete form incorrectly and have to start the maze over from the beginning.

Below are some URLs I found that might help others in the future who are looking for this same information:

(Of course no mention of it in the USCIS Glossary page)
