Unless you are belying the average processing time for your petition there is nothing anyone can do to expedite it. You just have to wait along with everyone else.

They don't necessarily expedite the process but they could give you updates on the progress of your petition

Unless you have a approved expedited petition nothing makes your petition go faster. They are contacting congressman and Senators to get information on what is going on why the hold up. Usually in 99% of cases they are told wht the petitioner is told. You have to wait.

I just got a call back from my Congressman's office on this topic this morning. They told me nothing that I didn't already know, and actually gave me a timeline that is two months longer than the one that I got with my actual transfer notice. Absolute waste of time and resources.

I think the "contact your congressman" thing was more useful before this backlog occurred. Back when petitions were being processed within normal time frames, you could get your representatives to inquire about your case status and possibly get a service request if it was taking too long. But now that the USCIS is using Oct 2012 as its processing date, there's not much anyone can do for you. You can ask your congressman to inquire about your case, but what you're likely to get back -- based on current experiences of other members here -- is a form letter stating you have to wait 6 months from the date of that letter before anything can be done.

Mine was at the DC local office. After over 6 months, I contacted both senators and within 2 weeks I was approved. Not sure it was coincidence or if it really helped. I know the backlog now is worse than it was before :/

First steps is to go to your senators websites and they will have forms to fill out on there. Good luck!

Congressmen cannot give you an expedite. If your case fell through the cracks and got lost and you're outside the normal processing time as given by USCIS, then they can rattle a couple of trees to see what shakes loose. Otherwise, you're only going to get back what USCIS has told you. Also, realize that it's not the congressman himself that's calling buddies in the USCIS to see about your case, it's an assistant or someone in his office submitting an inquiry.

I say this only so that people who are new here aren't being given false hope that badgering their congressman will get their case processed faster.
