People are still affected by laws regardless of if they are current or past laws. And we are addressing black and white, not other combinations.

How long will it take before gays be officially recognized or able to marry although it is law? How many discrimination suits are out although it is law that you cannot discriminate against people based off of race, religion, age, etc?

There are people right now, with mixed race black and white children who are fighting with hospitals and governments about the race of their children. I just posted the names of organizations who are helping these people.

Look at baby forums. A mother was complaining because she is black and her husband is white but they but the race of the child as black instead of biracial. I am sorry you think this still doesn't happen because there are "laws" and it isn't personally happening to you.

Can you give me specific examples? I don't doubt they happen but you need to show us, not just post names. If there are problems with the legacy of these laws, the procedures should be challenged in court. But there's no two ways about it -- the laws have been stricken from the books. Whether people are proceeding as if the laws were still standing then that is a question for the courts. My issue is with the wooliness of your nomenclature -- laws aren't the same as procedures, conventions or, frankly, morons just making sh!t up. It is perfectly possible for something illegal to happen even if the action is illegal -- murder, rape, assault, etc.

And it's frankly insulting to be told that this is only about black and white. Anti-miscegenation laws when they were in existence applied to races beyond the combination of black and white. My boyfriend was born in Tennessee in the early 70s. Being half-Asian was no walk in the park back then -- he was called a slew of names that I can't post on here without being censored. The nicest was "son of a Korean #######." Kids used to taunt him by saying "my daddy killed your daddy in the war." It was the black community that was most accepting of him. Luckily he has never seen fit to dwell on it.

I apologize for what happened to your boyfriend. But we know being black in the U.S. and Asian the two groups were treated differently although harshly.

You have google go for it. You have names, research them. They declared that lady black because her great great grandmom was black. In that case I'm Indian.

I think you should run with the Indian bit, and for sure get identified/listed by the Tribe/Nation.

Steven hasn't been around for quite a while either. Anyone in touch with him on FB or elsewhere? I thought maybe he changed his name and I missed it, but no one has been posting global warming or environmental issue articles for quite a while. devil.gif

All joking aside, I hope he is ok. It's been so long since we've watched buzzards naked together. devil.gif Amby is the only one who will probably remember that one. devil.gifdevil.gif

Try the entire population. If you look black, that's what you are.

Marvin, there are tons of 'black' people who have demonstrated their eligibility for tribal membership and been approved.

I'm talking about the folks who will designate them as Indian or black. It's the same thing for the Latinos that have to prove their ethnicity because they are mixed with African.

It's amazing folks don't understand the inherent disdain being black carries with it. Folks would rather get a blood transfusion from an extra terrestrial that would kill them instead of a black person that would save their lives.
