Organizations like the Association of MultiEthnic Americans (AMEA), A Place for Us (APFU), and Project RACE (Reclassify All Children Equally) pushed for change on the national level. White women married to middle-class black men spearheaded petitions at the state and local level because they felt their children were being forced to choose one parent over the other on government forms. People are still having children and hospitals and governments (for birth certificates) are still classifying their children as white or black based off the percentage of blood.

People are still affected by laws regardless of if they are current or past laws. And we are addressing black and white, not other combinations.

How long will it take before gays be officially recognized or able to marry although it is law? How many discrimination suits are out although it is law that you cannot discriminate against people based off of race, religion, age, etc?
