My wife came here on k1 visa and we got married withing the 90 day period. we are now doing all the AOS paperwork and some question ask her maiden name and other says family name. For example on form I-894 part 2 ask her family name. Do i put her last name or my last name? We want to have my last name but techincally we have not changed her last name to mine through Social Security. I called USCIS and they said use her last name? I thought I should fill out the paperwork as much as possible with my last name? Confused.

Unless a question specifically asks for her maiden name or other names used, put down her new name--the one she intends to use. Otherwise she'll end up with a green card with the wrong name on it. You likely won't be able to change her name with Social Security until you can show them an EAD or green card with the new name on it.

If she's taking your name, then use she should put her married name, except for where the forms ask for maiden name. And you don't change your name officially with Social Security. The official name change document is the marriage certificate. So once she gets married, her name is officially changed already. She can start using her married name from the day she gets married.

Our marriage certificate says her maiden name though? But I guess I will just use my name unless it asks for her maiden.

Some marriage certificates only show the wife's maiden name. Some show both maiden name and married name. It doesn't matter either way, it is still the legal name change document. If she's taking your name, she can start using her married name from the day she gets married. Everything else (ie SSA, banks, drivers license etc) is just updating the various organizations of the name change, using the marriage certificate as the name change proof.
