Good Evening,

Allow me to share my status update with the help of the Senator. I'm truly their grateful for a prompt action.

Status update from the Senator Office:

Below is the response our office received from USCIS. Your case is still pending at this time, and the officer does have 120 days to review the file and either make a decision or take further action. USCIS does have a process for expediting cases, but in order to qualify it does have to meet the expedite criteria. I have included the criteria below. Please review it and if you believe your case falls under the criteria, let me know. If not, feel free to follow-up with me after the 120 days if you still have not received a decision on your case.

All expedite requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and are granted at the discretion of the Director. The burden is on the applicant or petitioner to demonstrate that one or more of the expedite criteria have been met. The criteria are as follows:

· Severe financial loss to company or individual

· Extreme emergent situation

· Humanitarian situation

· Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States

· Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Note: Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to our Government)

· USCIS error

· Compelling interest of USCIS

Actual Response from USCIS to the Senator

Thank you for your May 13, 2014, letter on behalf of your constituent, XXXXXX, regarding his pending N-400 application.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) records confirm that Mr. XXXX case is pending at this time. USCIS is committed to adjudicating immigration benefits in a timely and efficient manner while also ensuring public safety, national security and compliance with all relevant directives. While the processing steps for most applications or petitions are completed quickly, a small percentage of cases involve unresolved issues that may result in adjudication delays.

The Officer is given 120 days from the date of the interview to process the N-400 application. In order to have the case expedite, please review criteria for expediting.

We hope this information is helpful. If we may be of further assistance, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Field Office Director

The USCIS gave your senator the standard "pending' status. All you can do at this time is wait. At least you know that they have a deadline of adjudicating your case in 120 days or less. Sit tight and try to forget about it for now while you go on with your everyday life. I wish you a speedy decision as soon as possible!

Hi Tiferny, unfortunately not,i called and i have been told that the may 21st was all booked and that i will make the next one on june 18th instead...You know, here in los angeles,we just have one big ceremony per month(which is ridiculous for a huge county as this one). But anyway,it will be most likely june 18th...thank you for asking and i will keep you posted...

Oh, I really thought that u could make the May 21st. Because my IO told me that the 21st was in need of a lot of people, so he gave me an oath letter right after interview. Guess it filled up quite fast. Well, almost there! : ) Good luck : )

Hey everyone, just passed by to see how you're all doing, hoping those of you still waiting will get a response fast.

I applied for a passport a few hours after my Oath Ceremony, and you can track the status online here:

https://passportstatus.state.gov/opss/OPSS_Status_i.asp

Well, kind of, as it only gives you your passport application locator number, current general processing times and nothing else.

It's a little nerve-wrecking not to have a traveling document that you can lawfully use to travel even if you do the expedite way for 2-3 weeks receival, and also not have your Naturalization certificate with you (you have to send the original one with the application - I wonder why they don't have a computerized system to check who has been naturalized instead).

FYI - only a few USPS post office accept applications in NYC. Check before you go, as this is something no one tells you!

As a side note, now that I don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore, I celebrated buying a receipt/document portable scanner and intend to go totally paperless in my house - something I did not have the guts to do up to now as I always felt I had to prove things and could not throw any papers.

Anyway, good luck to you all and hoping things go fast!

Done today - 05/09/14! It's been a long journey... that I was more than ready to be done with it...

12-13-13: Eligibility Date
12-13-13: Application Sent

12-17-13: Received/Priority Date
12-19-13: NOA Date
12-20-13: Check Cashed
01-02-14: Bio Letter Sent Date (long time... not a good idea to send application before holidays...)

01-07-14: Bio Letter Rcvd'
01-20-14: Original Bio Date -- duh. they booked me on a Federal Holiday and the center was... closed.
03-07-14: Actual Bio Date
(walk-in)

03-11-14: In line for Interview

03-12-14: Interview letter
04-17-14: Interview - Passed. Phew!

04-23-14: Oath Ceremony queue | scheduled (both at the same day)

Hey mimigrant,

The passport process is pretty easy and quick. Especially if you paid for expedite service.

I applied with expedited service and received my passport in a week. They will also provide you with a tracking number for USPS on the link you posted above once they have mailed your passport to you.

You will receive 2 separate mailings, 1 with your passport and another one with your Naturalization certificate.

Congrats!

Hi Mimigrant! Thanks for the valuable info! My hubby takes his oath this Thursday, 5/22 at 8:30 A.M. and I already made a passport application appointment at our local post office for 3 P.M. the same day. I'm debating whether to pay for the expedite service since we don't need it until 7/12/14.

Also, can anyone tell me how long it takes to change your status at the SS office from permanent resident to Naturalized citizen? We are going to try and fit that in on Thursday as well after the Oath but before the passport application.

Thanks!

Hello DebbyNSeyi,

I would advise you to wait at least 10 days after naturalization oath to update the SS. That is what they recommend so that the systems are all updated. It was also a pretty easy process, just bring your passport or naturalization certificate and fill out form SS-5.

They will update their systems and mail you a new card. Took only a week to receive it in my case.

Thanks, Gringas. Based on your response, we will wait to go to SS office until after hubby gets his naturalization certificate back (from applying for passport).

I love this group!!! :)

Hey there I went to the SS office right after the oath ceremony they gave me a letter saying that I had requested for a social and that they weren't able to do changes until they verified the certification they made a copy and that's it they told me that it takes 10 days for their systems to show the update in my citizenship and that's why it might take longer for them to send me my knew ss card the god thing is the process is already done and I should be expecting that soon I don't have to go back there or anything... The dps in Texas was a pain in the ... After waiting an hot asked me to come back within 15 days because they couldn't verify it so there... My husband had a huge problem he had two last names in his n400 he put yes to changing his name because he just wants to use one last name not two (is my hyphenated) at the interview the Uscis officer told him that was not a name change because he is just "dropping off" one of his last names therefore he never got a court document saying he changed his name at the dps they said he needed it has this happened to any of you? He was so pissed they wouldn't accept the naturalization certificate they need the court document... A friend of mine had exactly same situation and never asked for court document so I guess they when we receive it back from the passport people we will try again to change it at the dps... Have you heard about this before?
