Passed my interview today at Philly. Although there were three ceremonies held they weren't able to slot me in. I took two little kids with me and drove for 4 hours. They were nice enough to try to schedule the oath at the courthouse near where I live, it will be three weeks away. The IO said the oath letter will follow but the time and date are confirmed. Very very efficient and helpful, couldn't have expected better.

Let me know if you have any question, time for me to pay it forward.

Raza123 u will be fine.there is what I can tell you go get you a certified copy of your a police report and go to see your general attorney of your county talk to him and explain him the situation cause u have to speed up the process of your case..thats what I did when I had mine and I had some reasons why so it may work for you too..and u will fine just like me.dony worry.

Thanks Kool. I plan on consulting an immigration attorney in coming week to assess what could be the best possible court decision apart from dismissal to not affect the naturalization process. And then talk to my other attorney and ask him to seek the most favorable and shortest possible conclusion to the case. Will keep the forum updated as something new happens. Once again congratulations :)

Congrats mimigrant! Really happy to see most of us december folks completing the process. Hopefully I will get there sooner than later myself :)

PASSED the Naturalization interview :)

Hey everyone - I'm happy to report that I had my interview today at Federal Plaza in Manhattan and answered all the first 6 questions correctly! I was honestly surprised as I just studied in the past few days and kept forgetting a few tricky answers. Phew, really relieved.

The interview: it took around 40 minutes in and out. They called me in 10 minutes for bio and pictures, and the super nice officer came get me to his office a few minutes later. I was his last case for the day and he told me this was not a busy day there.

He got to the questions quickly to get it out of the way, I got them all right, and then he did get specific on additional trip dates since I applied in December (I had 4 trips, in total almost a month and he made sure I didn't stay abroad longer than I should). He also wrote down my new employment place which I joined after application was sent. It seems they need to put all current information in the system. He seemed to be able to access my travel history in his computer, which was interesting.

It went really smoothly but they did not have an oath going on today, he said I will receive an oath date maximum 30 days from today. All is good. I feel my long trip is over and it's a big relief. Now, on to oath and then paying taxes forever :)

I told officer they should change this long process as they are losing all the good people to Canada where they make it easy to immigrate for qualified professionals... Seriously, they should make this process a little easier! Good luck to all and I'll keep you posted on my oath date :D

thank you raza123 and DebbyNSeyi!

raza, in the end the whole things is less complicated and faster than we think. it's much easier than the former ones.

Debby I didn't apply based on marriage so that could be different than what you need! For my case (5 year residency and having been divorced they did not ask for anything related to former marriage to US citizen) - I didn't bring any special documents, sincerely my work and personal life has been so busy that I hardly had time to look into it.

Someone who recently did the interview in NY advised me they are really into knowing exactly how many days you spent out of the country, even after the application since December, so I think it's important to bring current and expired passports to prove if they ask for dates. I also had re-printed my application from December to bring and re-read it before the interview so I remembered the data I provided. So I think it's important to bring the list of traveling (arrival and departures) out of the country because my officer did ask about this, one by one of the new ones since December! Also, if you have a new job since application I would also bring some sort of proof, doesn't hurt - he trusted the work info I gave regarding my new job but perhaps other officer would not. Oh they did ask for printed taxes info from my work colleague (not from me) and because he didn't have it at the interview, he's application is in pending mode until he sends it in :/

Good luck to both of you!!! So happy to see things moving for everyone!

Congrats mimigrant! Really happy to see most of us december folks completing the process. Hopefully I will get there sooner than later myself :)

I don't know to be honest! I think because my interview was on Friday, and maybe because they do oaths on Tuesdays it just turned out that way. :)

Sometimes that happens. It happened to me. I went in for my interview on a Tuesday thinking that my oath ceremony would be scheduled a month later but after the interview they just told me to wait and 30 minutes letter i had my oath letter for that Friday!.

Hello all,

I had my Interview and Oath Ceremony in Newark, NJ yesterday - it was a very positive experience and it's great that Newark does the ceremony on the same day. Here's a quick recap.

My interview time was 8:35am, got there around 8am and it was fairly quiet in the waiting room. By 9am it was packed. They called me around 9:30am. Interview officer was very nice, went through my application line by line, asked to see 2013 tax transcript (sent the other years with the application), my driver's license, passport, and my wife's birth cert (3 year rule).

Next to the questions:

Who wrote the declaration of independence?

What is the political party of the president?

What are the two policitcal parties?

Three of the 13 original colonies?

One state that borders Mexico?

And one more that I just can't remember (it's amazing how quickly the interview goes by). Got the first six, so that was that.

Then he had me read the sentence "Who elects Congress?" and write the sentence "The people elect Congress." No problems there. Then he had my sign some papers, said congrats on passing your interview and to go back to the waiting room and I will 'eventually' be called for the Oath ceremony. The whole thing was about 15 minutes.

Got back to the waiting room and sat there until about 12:25 when they finally called me up for Oath, went to a nice ceremony room one floor up from the waiting room and got sworn in with about 50 other people. Ceremony took about an hour and I have to say the Officers did a really nice job at making it a fun and memorable experience. All in all, it was a long but enjoyable day and I'm so, so happy to be a US citizen.

Thanks to everyone on this forum - although I didn't ask too many question, or post too often - I did learn a lot and get a lot of encouragement from reading posts on VJ.

So, after passing the interview, a few questions:

1) Oath: Do they email / text when your oath is scheduled? How is it called? "Placed in line for oath"? Or do they already send the Oath letter with date itself?

2) GC: Do they take your Green Card away on the oath day? :/ It would be nice to be able to keep it...

3) Passport: Can you just leave the ceremony and go apply for a passport? What's the most convenient way to do it these days, and what are the items needed for applying? I assume only Certificate of Naturalization and a # of passport pictures? Of course I can google it, but it's nicer to have it recorded here in our thread :D

4) Traveling: Also, I assume and/or read that theoretically we can't travel / leave the country between Oath day and getting a passport day. Is that right?

Congrats to everyone who has been passing interviews and getting oaths!

Okay so my case was changed to:

Oath Ceremony

On April 23, 2014, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Naturalization Applicants: you will receive your certificate at your oath ceremony. You can expect to be scheduled for an oath ceremony within 45 days of receiving your recommended approval. Many offices schedule approved applicants for the oath ceremony on the same day as the day of the interview. Please check the local office profile page on our website to determine if the office where you will be interviewed schedules same day oath ceremonies.

Anyone knows what are the times in NY these days after this step happens? When do you think my Oath will take place?

So, after passing the interview, a few questions:

1) Oath: Do they email / text when your oath is scheduled? How is it called? "Placed in line for oath"? Or do they already send the Oath letter with date itself?

2) GC: Do they take your Green Card away on the oath day? :/ It would be nice to be able to keep it...

Woah this was fast... why don't they provide the time and date with this notice and email? Any idea how many days it is taking in NY?

Oath Ceremony

On April 23, 2014, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location.
