I am confused about travelling on the multiple entry AP. I was granted one through an interview to visit my sick father. When I returned to the US the Border Patrol told me to make sure I had another interview before travelling again as I would be denied entry. Even though the stamp is valid for one year. When I talked to USCIS and to the Customs and Border Patrol they both told me I would be fine and the officer was mistaken. I am really worried now to travel. Anyone have advice?

While it is never a guarantee when travelling on an Advanced Parole that you will be allowed to re-enter, as long as you have not violated any immigration regulations or laws in the US, you are not likely to be denied re-entry. Your AP should say it is good for multiple re-entries. If it is a multiple re-entry AP, then the border guard was wrong.

If you do travel and end up being denied re-entry, ask to speak to another officer or his superior - someone who is more familiar with APs and you should find the situation resolved. All of the border guards along the Canadian border have to serve a time on the Mexican border first. It may be that you came on one who has only recently been assigned to the Canadian border. He does seem either inexperienced or unfamiliar with how a multiple entry AP works. Quite a number of the border authorities are notorious on their lack of knowledge and awareness of immigration related processes and procedures.

All that being said, you should be fine. You can also visit the Canadian Regional forum to get re-assurance from many other Canadians who have used their AP multiple times to go to Canada and back without a problem.

I hope your Dad gets better soon.
