My fiancee went this morning and had his medical exam and passed. Yay! However, he underestimated the cost and didn't bring enough money on his trip to cover the vaccinations. They passed him and told him it would not be a problem, that he could just get his vaccinations when he arrives in the US because it is a K visa and it's not a big deal.

1. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm assuming since the clinic is associated with the consulate that it's legit but it just makes me nervous.

2. If he comes to the US without the vaccinations will he have to do another medical exam here to get the vaccines or no, we can just go get the shots? I'm a little nervous about how this will affect the paperwork for the AOS.

Thanks for your input!

You will need to prove he has the vaccinations for AOS. From all I've heard and seen on here, most people choose to do them in their own country as it's usually cheaper than doing them in the US. A lot of US doctors will charge you for medical exams, even if you only need the shots, and even though the medical that was done in beneficiary's country is still valid, and the problem is there's not a lot that you can do to prevent getting ripped off like that. Experiences do vary though.

Can he not get his vaccinations done in the meantime, and then take that as proof?

I arrived in the US from England on a K1 visa,i had the medical in London but couldnt get the MMR vaccination done at the time, it wasnt a problem getting the visa though they said i would need the MMR for the AOS. So i went to an immigration approved doctor here,he tried to get me to have the full medical again,i refused and we argued about whether i needed a medical again,it was only after i made a fuss and showed him the immigration guidance notes that he made a call to check ( so he said ?) .He did the shot plus a flu shot for $195,it was all hassle and stress and i regretted not getting it done in good time at home before the medical. My advice is to shop around for a doctor in the state/county that you are in. Try looking on VJ for people who have posted addresses of doctors who will just do the shots without making you take and pay for another medical, try looking under '' Civil surgeons who dont rip you off ''.Maybe some doctors try it on and hope that you will pay them for a medical,or they dont really know the rules ? Besides its their business to make money, they like someone to pay to put their kids through medical/Law school and pay for their holiday home in Montana ! Best of luck

HEY my boyfriend has his exam yesterday, but he had the money for the vaccines and forgot that I told him to get them. the vaccines for K 1 visas are optional. but it is cheaper in DR, I'm hopeing he could probably go back and only get that done before coming to the US. As for the paperwork for AOS he does have to have the vaccines done here by a civil surgeon i believe it's called.

there is a list on the uscis website i believe you could look up by zip code

Above answer is correct they are definitive cheaper in DR but if you need to do them here that's is fine too he will still get his visa if approved. As for AOS he will need to complete his shots here with a civil surgeon. Good Luck and Congrats!

Thanks everyone!! We're going to go a day early for the interview so I think we're going to try to run by the clinic that day to do the shots. I feel a thousand times better now thanks to all your responses. If all else fails, we have a ton of places here in Houston where you can get immigration vaccines so if we have to wait hopefully it won't be too expensive! He had a horrible moto accident in May and was in ICU for a week and almost didn't make it so knowing that he's passed and we're inching towards the interview lifts about a thousand pounds off my shoulders!!

No he owned his own pasola and he was leaving work one night and a bus stopped quick in front of him. It was raining so when he put on the brakes the bike didn't stop and he hit the back of the bus. With no helmet of course. Broken leg, torn intestines, torn liver and torn gallbladder. And no insurance card in his wallet even though he has insurance so 2 places refused him before he got accepted at the 3rd clinic. He had a guardian angel that day for sure!

I haven't got any specific info for the vaccine clinics but I see them all over the place in southwest Houston on my drive home from work. I'll look into it and let you know what I find!

my now husband came from Turkiye last year, he got shots at his medical exam in Turkiye but had to get a second round of a couple of those shots once here in the US. We went to a civil surgeon, at this point we were already married and he was on my health insurance plan and it all got covered as "routine". only thing we paid for was the paperwork for AOS by the civil surgeon, she charged us 200.00 cash which I'm sure was a made up too high price but we needed what we needed and had to get it done. she then gave us all the paperwork in a sealed envelope just like the K1 visa info and we mailed that with our forms for AOS.

Depending on the country, vaccinations may be cheaper, than here in US. But if anyone needs to get vaccinations once they get here, try your local Costco Pharmacy. No Dr. prescriptions are necessary, and they are done on a walk-in basis. Also they were a fraction of the cost my Dr's office was going to charge me.

How much was the total cost for the vaccines and the medical? We have our interview comming up soon but my fiancee has not yet received his letter, so I'm going to send the one I received via e-mail, but the only problem is that my packet does not contain the instructions for the medical..

I went onto the Consultorio de Visas website to see the list of prices, but it says $350 then lower down $250 for his age group! Soo confusing!!
